Honey is the perfect vector for using CBD.
Here are the top 5 CBD-infused honey sticks on the market in 2022.
Humans have been using medicinal honey for centuries.
Recently, manufacturers have started producing CBD-infused honey as an alternative to bitter-tasting CBD oils.
The premise is the same — the honey serves as a base for storing the active ingredients (the CBD) in the same way a liquid tincture does. The advantage is that the sweet flavor of the honey is able to mask the natural hemp flavor — which many find undesirable.
In this article, we’ll cover what makes honey sticks so popular, how to use them, and how to make some DIY CBD honey at home yourself.
Let’s begin by covering the best CBD honey sticks currently available.

Gold Bee is hands down the best source of CBD honey we’ve seen yet. Before this company ever got into the CBD industry at all they were selling organic wildflower honey produced on their farm.
Today, the company has evolved into more of a CBD company than apiary, but their experience with honey products gives them a huge advantage over every other CBD company in this space.
The honey Gold Bee uses for these honey sticks is no longer sourced from the United States. They import their honey from the Amazon rainforest. Why? Because it’s simply the best source of honey in the world.
The Amazon is the most biologically diverse place on earth. The bees that live here can visit anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 different species of plants to draw its nectar in a single day — adding a little bit of the medicinal value of each plant to the honey they produce back at the hive.
These honey sticks come in a pack of 10, each with a modest dose of 10 mg of CBD per stick. This is a great product to keep around for an evening cup of tea and makes for an excellent gift item.

The Brother’s Apothecary specialize in making holistic CBD-based products. They often incorporate other herbs and nutrients to complement the effects of the CBD in the formula.
This CBD honey is a prime example of that. It’s made with both a full-spectrum CBD extract and lavender — which is a powerful relaxing and sedative herb used to alleviate stress and promote sleep.
These aren’t honey sticks, but they do come in individual packages to make it as simple as possible to use.
Each pack comes with a dose of 10 – 15 mg full-spectrum CBD, along with lavender flower extract and organic wildflower honey (from Oregon).
You can also find other flavors of honey from this brand, including:

American Shaman has one of the most diverse lineups of CBD products we’ve seen yet. It’s no surprise this company is already on board with their own version of CBD-infused honey sticks as well.
These honey sticks are different from other brands in that you can choose whether you want a full-spectrum hemp extract as the base, or CBD isolate (THC-free).
In general, full-spectrum products offer stronger and more versatile effects, but there are reasons you may want to avoid even trace amounts of THC as well (like avoiding a failure on an upcoming drug test).
These sticks contain 10 mg per stick and come in packs of 10 or 100. Both options come with similar value (24 and 22 cents per mg of CBD respectively).

Just CBD places a strong emphasis on using organic ingredients.
This brand only recently came out with their CBD honey sticks, which they offer in raw unflavored honey as well as these cinnamon-flavored sticks.
Both are great-tasting products, with the same 10 mg dose of CBD per stick. However, I especially like the mild spicy flavor of the cinnamon option, which is perfect for adding into a cup of black tea or chai in the cooler months of the year.
These sticks deliver excellent value for the money, come in packs of either 10 or 100 sticks, and use organic wildflower honey as the base.

This is not a CBD honey stick, but a full jar of CBD-infused honey.
Luce Farm is a small, family-owned company based out of Vermont. They have a passion for natural living and using natural alternatives instead of relying on pharmaceutical medicine.
All the hemp used to make this honey is grown outdoors on the farm and processed on-site using supercritical CO2 as the solvent.
They then combine the hemp extract with organic wildflower honey produced by other members of their rural community.
Each jar contains 360 mg of CBD for a potency of just over 2 mg/mL — which is just right.
CBD honey is essentially the same thing as a CBD tincture that uses honey as the solvent base instead of vegetable oil.
Honey sticks come as a premeasured dose of honey in thin straw-like tubes. They’re designed to make using the honey easier. Each stick contains a set amount of honey and CBD. They remove the frustrations with using honey — such as leaving a sticky mess everywhere as you use it.
The best CBD honey is made from organic wildflower honey and provides at least 1 mg of CBD per mL of honey.
You don’t want a product that’s too strong here or you’ll only be able to use a few drops at a time, and you don’t want it too weak or it’s not going to offer any real benefits. The sweet spot seems to be around 1 – 3 mg per mL of honey or about 10 – 20 mg per honey stick.
Honey sticks offer all the same benefits as any source of CBD. They serve as a vector for delivering active CBD to the body the same way as CBD oils, capsules, or gummies.
The benefits of CBD range from alleviating stress and anxiety to managing pain and inflammation.
CBD-infused honey has an advantage — the honey offers medicinal value itself, especially when applied topically on the skin. You can use CBD honey sticks topically to help heal cuts and scratches, reduce bruising, and manage dry or irritated skin.
With that said, CBD honey sticks aren’t the best option for people who need high doses of CBD. They usually contain between 10 and 20 mg per stick, and it’s not recommended to use more than one stick at a time due to the sugar content.
If you’re the type who needs high-dose CBD, I recommend you look at using a high-potency CBD oil or capsule instead.
The benefits of CBD honey sticks include:
Honey has been used as a source of medicine for well over 5000 years. This dates back as far as written literature goes, so there’s no way of knowing how long humans have used honey as medicine.
The medicinal uses of honey include topical applications (wound-healing, treating insect bites, and managing infections), as well as internally (sore throats, digestive problems, acid reflux, and more).
The most common way people use honey is by combining it with various herbs to create what’s essentially a honey-based herbal tincture. The most commonly used herbs include rosemary, lavender, pine, or yarrow.
The medicinal effects of honey include:
Honey sticks are designed to be very simple to use.
To use them, start by cutting or tearing open one end of the stick to expose the honey inside.
You can then pour the honey into your mouth directly, or add it into a hot cup of tea or coffee. As the honey heats up from the tea, the honey will melt and diffuse into the cup.
You can also dump the contents of your honey sticks onto pancakes or any other foods you want to use it — in the same way you would with regular honey.
Most honey-sticks come with a premeasured dose already, so you don’t need to do any calculations or measurements to find the right dose.
The most common dose for honey sticks is 10 mg per stick, but you can also find sticks with 5, 15, or 20 mg of CBD each.
Use our CBD dosage calculator below to find the estimated dose of CBD for you based on your body weight and desired strength. You can then use this to decide how many honey sticks you’ll need to get the right amount of CBD.
Keep in mind honey-sticks aren’t designed to be used as a source of high-dose CBD. They’re more aligned with using CBD for casual purposes like helping you unwind with a cup of tea at the end of the day, or managing some mild stress or anxiety while you’re at work. In order to hit high doses of CBD, you’d need to take a lot of CBD honey, which isn’t recommended. Honey is natural and has a lot of health benefits, but it’s still very high in sugar. You shouldn’t be taking large doses of honey on a daily basis.
In general, stick to one honey stick at a time.
If you need a very large dose of CBD (more than 40 mg per dose), you may want to supplement your CBD honey with another form of CBD, such as capsules, oils, or concentrates.
Making medicated honey is an age-old practice. People have been infusing herbs into honey for thousands of years. Plants like rosemary, sage, pine, and lavender were all popular ingredients for making medicinal honey.
Making CBD-infused honey works the same way as making an oil tincture. Honey acts as a solvent to dissolve the active ingredients from the hemp plant just like a tincture.
If you’re interested in making your own CBD-infused honey, here are three simple recipes you can follow:
Making CBD honey from raw cannabis flowers is the most traditional method of making CBD honey. This is the way humans have been making medicated honey for centuries. You can follow this same recipe with just about any plant.
This particular recipe will yield honey with a potency of around 0.5 mg of CBD per mL of honey (based on a hemp flower with 15% CBD content). If you want it to be a little bit stronger or weaker, feel free to play around with the amount of hemp flower you’re using.
The first step is to grind the hemp into smaller pieces. This increases the surface area and significantly improves the efficiency of the extraction process. You can use a herb grinder or use a blender.
The next step is to combine the honey in a jar with the hemp flower and mix them together.
You’ll need to let this sit for a couple of weeks to allow the active ingredients to diffuse into the honey. I like to let these sit for at least 2 weeks, but a month is even better.
Every 1 – 2 days you should give the jar a shake to try and mix the flower around a little bit. This will improve the efficiency of the extraction and ultimately make the final product even stronger.
This step is completely optional — hemp flowers are completely edible and you don’t technically need to strain it from the honey for it to work.
However, most people don’t like little bits of leaf in their honey, so here’s how to filter the plant matter out once the infusion is done.
Create a double boiler by filling a saucepan up with water and bringing it to a very light boil. Nest the jar of hemp-infused honey in the pan. What you’re doing here is heating the honey gently using the water instead of direct heat from the burner. This is going to heat the honey much more evenly than placing it over the heat directly.
Now that the honey is a little warm (but not hot), it will be much easier to filter it through a muslin bag or cheesecloth. The viscosity of the honey will be much lower and you should be able to pour the whole jar through the cloth into another measuring cup. The muslin bag will catch all the little bits of hemp flower.
Once it’s filtered, you can fill your honey into a clean heart and you’re ready to use it!
Making CBD honey from hemp oil is possible, but isn’t my favorite option. There are a few challenges when making CBD honey with this method.
The biggest challenge you’re going to face is that honey and oil don’t really mix.
Honey is primarily made up of sugars (D-glucose, fructose, and sucrose), and about 25% water. All of these components don’t want to dissolve in fats. If you try and mix a lipid or oil in with the honey, the two will immediately begin to separate.
To get around this, you either need to use a water-soluble CBD tincture or get used to mixing your CBD-infused honey up every time you use it.
First, you’ll need to make a simple double boiler to heat the honey. Fill the saucepan with water and nest the glass measuring cup inside.
Turn on the heat and bring the water to a very gentle boil. You should see it bubbling but not boiling.
Add the honey to the measuring cup and allow the double boiler to gently warm it up until you start to see some bubbles forming in the honey.
Now you just need to add the CBD oil.
The goal is to use as little CBD oil as possible, so you’ll want to use a relatively high-potency oil.
I recommend finding a 1000 mg or 2500 mg CBD oil to use for this depending on how strong you want your honey to be:
The reason we’re heating the honey is to reduce the viscosity of the honey and make it easier for the CBD oil to mix into the honey. Even water-soluble CBD oil doesn’t mix perfectly with honey, so heating it provides a slight advantage to help get as much of it to dissolve as possible.
Stir the CBD oil and honey thoroughly for a few minutes before turning off the heat.
Once everything is mixed together, add the honey into a jar and allow it to cool completely before you use it.
If you used a water-soluble CBD tincture your honey shouldn’t need any additional mixing.
If you used a regular CBD oil tincture, you may need to give your honey a quick store each time to mix the oil that settles on the top of the honey back in.
I’ve saved the easiest method for last. Making CBD honey from isolated powder is super simple and can be completed in under 30 minutes.
Here’s how to do it.
First, you need to decide how much isolation you want to use. The more you use the more potent the honey.
At 250 mg your honey will contain 0.5 mg per mL
At 500 mg your honey will have 1 mg per mL
At 1000 mg your honey will have 2 mg per mL
I generally use about 500 mg of CBD isolate for every 500 mL of honey. I find this to be a good gentle dose of CBD for adding to teas or coffee.
You can weigh your CBD isolate using a small scale, or order a specific weight of CBD isolate so you don’t have to worry about doing any measurements yourself. You can buy isolated crystals in set amounts — 100, 250, 500, or 1000 mg.
CBD isolate comes in a fine white powder. In order to use it with your honey, you’ll need to convert it into a liquid form first.
To do this, set up a simple double boiler. This is done by filling a saucepan with water, placing the glass measuring cup or another saucepan inside the water, and bringing the water to just under a boil.
In the glass measuring cup, you can add your CBD isolate and a small amount of MCT oil. You only want to add enough that the isolate can dissolve. This usually works out to around a tablespoon or less.
As the water heats up, you’ll notice the CBD crystals starting to melt. Stir it around until all of it is melted and then remove from the heat.
The final step is to stir the liquid CBD isolates in with your honey. I would just add this directly to the jar of honey and spend a few minutes stirring it in as thoroughly as possible.
That’s it!
Now you’ve got a fresh jar of medicated honey to mix in with your tea, coffee, or incorporate into your cooking.
No, CBD honey sticks will not make you high as long as you’re using a product that’s made from hemp, rather than marijuana.
All CBD products in the United States, as well as Europe, are regulated to contain a specific amount of the psychoactive cannabinoid — THC. In the United States, the limit is 0.3% of the total weight, and in Europe, it’s either 0.2% or 0% in places like France.
Concentrations this low of THC are nowhere near the amount needed to produce psychoactive effects.

Honey Sticks are a popular way of using CBD — especially in those using CBD more casually.
You can eat the honey directly for a quick dose, add it to your tea of coffee, or apply it topically to burns, scrapes, or cuts on the skin.
The best CBD honey sticks should contain provide at least 10 mg each, use organic honey, and avoid the use of synthetic flavorings as much as possible.
My favorite CBD honey sticks are made by brands that specialize in organic products like Gold Bee or The Brother’s Apothecary.
You can also make your own CBD-infused honey at home using a water-soluble tincture, raw hemp flowers, or CBD isolates.
