Key Hightlights
  • One of the oldest CBD companies in Europe

  • The company also sells a wide selection of cannabis seeds

  • A highly respected company with multiple international business awards

Sensi Seeds Review

Sensi Seeds is an excellent choice for European CBD products. This Dutch company is one of the world leaders in the cannabis space, having been in operation since 1985.

More importantly, Sensi Seeds has a sister company called HempFlax which has pioneered much of the current technology used in hemp cultivation and manufacturing within Europe.

As such, it has unparalleled expertise when it comes to making premium-quality CBD products, with complete control over the process from seed to bottle. Although the company can improve by providing third-party lab tests and offering more product variations, we highly recommend this company if you live in Europe.

Mission/Charity 5/5

Sensi Seeds’ mission is to advance the cause of cannabis worldwide, both as a medicinal and industrial crop.

The company has done a lot to promote this over its long history, including the supply of cannabis seeds for the Dutch medical system, pioneering technologies for hemp cultivation and manufacturing, opening cannabis museums, and running an annual cannabis award show.

Hemp Source 3/5

Sensi Seeds grows its own hemp locally in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the company loses points for not making its third-party lab test results available and the lack of official organic certification.

Product Range 4/5

The company provides three popular types of CBD products — tinctures, capsules, and e-liquids. We’d like to see the company offer a few more options for flavor, CBD potency, and volume.

Sensi Seeds also sells hemp seeds for people looking to grow their own hemp at home, as well as hemp seed oil, raw hemp seeds, and vaporizers for raw cannabis flower.

Innovation 5/5

Sensi Seeds was an original innovator in the space when they started selling the seeds for cannabis strains high in CBD as early as a decade ago — long before CBD was a popular health supplement.

However, most of Sensi Seeds’ innovation comes from the work of its sister company HempFlax, a pioneer of hemp cultivation and manufacturing technology since 1993.

Only recently the company decided to step into the CBD market officially.

Safety 4/5

Sensi Seeds has been in the cannabis industry for a long time. Starting with seeds allows the company to keep tight control over the quality of the hemp they use to make their products. The company has literally spent decades garnering top-level partnerships with some of the best hemp farms in Europe.

Although we’re confident in the quality of hemp Sensi Seeds uses to make its products, we can’t give full points here because the company doesn’t provide its third-party test results publically. This is a big red flag for us and something we’d really like to see Sensi Seeds improve on in the future.

Customer Service 5/5

Sensi Seeds has operated since 1985 and has over 10,000 customer reviews with an average 4.75 rating on the independent review website Trustpilot. The company can be reached by phone, email, Facebook, and Twitter, and also has a comprehensive knowledge database for common questions.

Our interaction with the customer service team at Sensi Seeds was very positive — they gave fast and thorough responses to all of our questions.

Sensi Seeds Company Review

Article By
Gleb Oleinik , posted 10 months ago

The CBD industry is young — some of the biggest brand names today were only established within the last five years.

This, however, is not the case for the Netherlands’ Sensi Seeds, a cannabis company founded back in 1985. It’s one of the oldest and most respected names in the cannabis industry. It started out selling hemp and marijuana seeds — but have since expanded into the budding CBD market.

Sensi Seeds has a huge advantage over the competition with its longstanding history in the cannabis market on different levels.

In this review, we’ll explain why we think Sensi Seeds is a great option for CBD.

About the Company: Sensi Seeds

Sensi Seeds is a cannabis seed bank company established in 1985 in the Netherlands. It’s currently the world’s largest cannabis seed bank with more than 500 cannabis varieties. The company is recognized as a pioneer of the cannabis industry.

Sensi Seeds also has a large focus on hemp through its sister company HempFlax. As such, it’s not surprising that Sensi Seeds recently began to offer a standard lineup of CBD products, including oils, capsules, and e-liquids.

Sensi Seeds is one of the most reputable, experienced cannabis companies in the world.

The company sources hemp from the Netherlands, which is harvested using special techniques designed by HempFlax. The hemp is then extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide — the current gold-standard for cannabinoid extraction.

All of Sensi Seeds products are manufactured in the Dutch city of Groningen.

What Is Sensi Seeds’ Mission?

Sensi Seeds’ mission is simple and commendable — normalize cannabis use through promoting its medical and industrial benefits and uses.

The company has worked on this goal for over 30 years, highlighted by the basic fact that its seed bank directly helps people access cannabis and preserves its genetic diversity for future generations.

Another notable achievement is that Sensi Seeds’ cannabis strains are used by Bedrocan, the company which manufactures all of the Netherlands’ medical cannabis products.

The company also opened the first cannabis museum in the world in 1985 and now operates two museums in Amsterdam and Barcelona. Additionally, Sensi Seeds runs a yearly Cannabis Culture Awards that honor people who promote the acceptance of cannabis.

In terms of hemp, Sensi Seeds has achieved quite a lot through its sister company HempFlax, which is a world leader in all things hemp. Established in 1993, HempFlax pioneered new methods and equipment for hemp cultivation and processing that have set the standard for the hemp industry.

For example, HempFlax harvester technology is used by John Deere, the leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery, and the company not only makes CBD products but other hemp-based products for textiles, construction, and cosmetics.

Where Does Sensi Seeds Source Its Hemp?

Sensi Seeds sources its hemp from the north-east regions of the Netherlands. This organic hemp is harvested by its sister company HempFlax, dried, and extracted.

However, the company does not provide any certificates to prove that the hemp is organic. We can’t give them too much flack for this at the moment — as it’s extremely difficult to obtain official organic certification for hemp in Europe at the moment. Although, we do hope to see this change in the next few years as it becomes easier to certify hemp.

Sensi Seeds’ flagship product is a full-spectrum CBD oil. It comes in two concentrations: 2.75% and 5%, and two bottle sizes, 10 mL and 30 mL.

The standout feature of these tinctures is the use of hemp seed oil rather than MCT oil as the carrier oil to help your body absorb CBD.

Hemp seed oil is considered a premium ingredient, which makes sense to include given Sensi’s focus on hemp cultivation and hemp-derived products. It also helps keep this CBD oil as close to natural as possible.

The CBD Coconut Hemp Oil is a unique take on regular CBD tinctures designed to boost your overall health. Instead of giving CBD the spotlight, this product combines CBD with larger amounts of two other natural, healthy, beneficial ingredients — coconut oil and hemp seed oil.

As such, it contains 500 mg or 1000 mg of pure CBD in a 250 mL or 500 mL bottle, which gives it a relatively low CBD potency of 2 mg/mL.

This product carves out a unique niche between standard CBD oils and health food supplements.

Like most CBD brands, Sensi Seeds offers capsules as an alternative to CBD oil. These capsules contain the same ingredients as the company’s tinctures — full-spectrum hemp extract mixed with hemp seed oil.

The company also claims to use vegan-friendly delayed-release shells to improve the absorption of CBD.

Each bottle contains 60 capsules with one of three strengths: 10 mg, 15 mg, or 20 mg, so you can choose the potency that suits you best.

What Does Sensi Seeds Do Well?

1. Hemp Expertise

With over three decades of experience in the cannabis sector and a dedicated sister company for hemp (HempFlax), Sensi Seeds is one of the world leaders in all things hemp.

HempFlax not only pioneered many of the technologies used to cultivate and process hemp but also continues to offer a wide range of hemp-based products, including CBD supplements, construction materials, cosmetics, animal care products, and more.

2. Seed-to-Bottle Oversight

The vast majority of CBD companies source hemp or even the finished CBD extracts from different businesses. In stark contrast, Sensi Seeds has complete control over the manufacturing of its CBD products, starting out with locally-grown Dutch hemp cultivated and processed by its sister company HempFlax.

3. Great Value

Sensi Seeds offers some of the lowest prices on the European CBD market, especially considering the quality and great reputation of the company. You can get CBD for as little as € 0.03–0.04 for one mg.

Where Could Sensi Seeds Improve?

1. Third-Party Testing

Despite its amazing reputation, Sensi Seeds does not provide third-party test results anywhere on its website. Considering that this is a baseline requirement for any serious CBD brand, we’re quite puzzled that such an established cannabis company that does so many things right chooses not to make these tests readily available.

2. Product Options

We respect that Sensi Seeds chose to stick to only three product CBD product categories, but it would be nice to have more options for flavor and CBD potency. For example, people who find the taste of CBD oil too strong would benefit from a flavored CBD tincture, while those who vape CBD are accustomed to having a variety of flavor options. Similarly, it would be nice to have more options for CBD strength and bottle volume.

Safety & Third-Party Testing

Although Sensi Seeds claims to use third-party testing, there are no lab test results on its website, which is a big negative for this company.

Considering the company’s reputation and direct control over every step of the manufacturing process, we’d be surprised if any of its products or ingredients are unsafe or misleading.

Nonetheless, third-party testing provides a layer of safety and trust people have come to expect from CBD brands.

Sensi Seeds Shipping and Return Policy

Sensi Seeds ships CBD products in discreet packaging to many countries, including Aruba, Andorra, the Netherlands, Antilles, Australia, Bulgaria, Bahamas, Bermuda, Bolivia, Barbados, Canada, Chile, Comoros, Cyprus, Estonia, Gibraltar, Guadeloupe, Grenada, Greenland, Guyana, Croatia, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Moldova, Republic of Macedonia, Norway, New Zealand, French Polynesia, Russian Federation, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, United States, and South Africa.

There is a flat shipping fee of € 7.50 on European orders and € 12.50 for international orders.

Orders can be returned within 14 days of being received if you’re unhappy with your purchase. We found the customer service team at Sensi Seeds are fast and responsive so any issues you may experience should be sorted out in short order.

Final Verdict: One of the Best European CBD Brands Despite Third-Party Testing Hiccup

We recommend Sensi Seeds as a CBD brand, especially if you’re located in Europe.

Although the company’s lack of accessible third-party lab test results is a major drawback, there’s a lot to like about Sensi Seeds. For one, it’s one of the most established cannabis brands in the world with over three decades of experience.

Furthermore, it’s one of the world leaders in hemp cultivation and manufacturing thanks to its sister company HempFlax. You’ll be hard-pressed to find another company as experienced with hemp and with as much control over the manufacturing process.

Sensi Seeds grows and processes all of its hemp in the Netherlands, overseeing its CBD products from seed to bottle. Also, its CBD products are competitively priced and don’t have any gimmicks.

However, it would be nice to have more options for flavors, CBD potency, and volume.

In sum, Sensi Seeds is one of the most reputable and established choices for CBD, as highlighted by thousands of satisfied customer reviews. But the company could improve by providing third-party test results on its website and offering more product variations.
