Mary Joe is a CBD cold brew coffee company based out of California, USA.
Cold brew coffee has a different flavor profile to regular coffee and serves as a great beverage on a hot afternoon. The guys over at Mary Joe have worked hard producing a top-notch cold brew recipe, to which they add about 15 mg of CBD isolate once complete. We absolutely love the coffee these guys make and see the CBD as an added bonus.
Coffee and CBD make for a great combination. The CBD helps offset many of the most common side-effects of caffeine (like jitteriness and anxiety symptoms).
We love Mary Joe and will continue to use their CBD cold brews throughout the summer.
The mission of Mary Joe is fairly straightforward and commendable: “bring the benefits of cannabis to people in the familiar, non-psychoactive form of CBD coffee.”
The company supports local community charities as needed. In March 2019, the company donated 50% of its proceeds towards helping the victims of the wildfires that swept through the area — leaving thousands of people homeless.
Mary Joe doesn’t list the hemp source on its website — however, after reaching out to the customer service team this information was quickly provided. Mary Joe uses CBD manufactured by Follium Biosciences — one of the largest cannabis extraction and processing companies in the United States.
Mary Joe currently offers only one type of CBD product — CBD cold brew coffee. There is no option of buying a single bottle, as it only comes in packs of 4 or 8. With that said, this company is specifically a CBD coffee company — the very name is a combination of marijuana (Mary Jane) and coffee (a cup of joe). Therefore, we can’t dock them too many points in this category. We would like to see a few different options in terms of flavored cold brews or even single packs in the future.
Mary Joe scores some points for innovation: there simply aren’t many CBD-infused coffee products out there, especially ones that are sold in a liquid, cold-brewed form.
This product provides third-party testing to prove the extracts used are free from contaminants like heavy metals or pesticides. Additionally, the company complies with good manufacturing practices in the United States. We don’t see any reason to remove any points from this company for safety.

The company was founded in 2017 by Ryan Rankin and Robert Guy, two surfing and cannabis enthusiasts.
The pair started their company in Costa Mesa, California. They began selling their coffee to retail stores and more recently began to offer it directly to customers online.
There is no information on Mary Joe’s website explaining where the hemp used in its coffee comes from. In addition, you won’t find third-party lab testing for its products.
Without this information, we can’t be sure about the products’ quality. However, after reaching out to the company, this information was quickly provided.
It turns out they use CBD purchased from Follium Biosciences — a leader in high-quality CBD extracts in the United States. All the third-party lab tests we asked for were also provided, and everything seems to be of excellent quality and potency.
We believe not listing this information on the site is more a byproduct of being new to the cannabis industry than it is negligence on the company’s part.

Mary Joe sells cold brew CBD-infused coffee that contains filtered water, organic coffee beans, and hemp extract. This is the brand’s bread and butter.
We’re big coffee snobs, and we were excited to try this cold brew ourselves. Honestly, it didn’t disappoint.
The guys over at Mary Joe clearly know their coffee — which we really appreciate after trying so many mediocre CBD coffees from other companies operating in this space.
We believe the reason why this coffee is so great is that Mary Joe is a coffee company first — focusing on making an excellent tasting cold brew and a CBD company second — buying its CBD from people that know that side of the business best.

The main selling point of Mary Joe is its unique flagship product. Although CBD coffee is beginning to be offered at cafes and online shops, it’s still a relatively new beverage.
Mary Joe’s coffee is made even more unique by the fact that it’s cold-brewed and comes already prepared in bottles rather than a dried form. The cold brewing process helps avoid extracting the heavier, astringent, and bitter compounds in coffee — giving it a lighter, sweeter taste.
These guys also do a fair bit of donation to support its local community, which is something we admire in a CBD company.
The main issue with Mary Joe is the lack of information about what goes into its coffee. There’s no information about its hemp source or a Certificate of Analysis from a third-party lab to verify the cannabinoid profile and purity on the website.
We can’t dig into these guys too hard since this was all provided as soon as we requested it via email, but we’d like to see this posted publicly on the website with a tracking system to check each batch you buy should you want to. This is quickly becoming standard practice in the industry.
In addition, there is no information on how the CBD is infused into the coffee. This is also important to know since CBD is by nature a fat-soluble compound that doesn’t mix well in water.
Despite the lack of public tests, Mary Joe’s hemp is thoroughly tested before it goes into the bottle.
Turns out its hemp is pretty good! It’s from Follium Biosciences in Colorado. This company is massive and likely provides the majority of CBD extracts currently on the market.
It’s a little-known fact that most CBD companies don’t actually make their own hemp extract — they simply buy the hemp extract in bulk and put it in their own bottles with their own formulas and marketing.
We don’t discredit Mary Joe for doing this — we see this as a good thing. Follium Biosciences is an excellent CBD manufacturer with some of the best scientists in the industry working under their roof. They know how to make a good extract on a massive scale. This is great for Mary Joe, who can then focus on the quality of its cold-brew instead.
As far as we’re concerned, Mary Joe passes with flying colors in this category.
