It’s difficult to get 99.9% CBD without wasting a lot of the compound in the process — however, the way we see it, if you’re going to market the product as having this much CBD, you need to consistently deliver this amount no matter how inefficient the extraction may be at times.
We should note that although we did find an inconsistent test, the vast majority of the third-party tests on the company website do indeed show 99.9% purity.

How Does Highland Pharms Extract 99.9% Pure CBD?
Like most other CBD manufacturers, Highland Pharms uses supercritical CO2 to make its extracts.
The CO2 pulls out the majority of the phytochemical profile of the plant, leaving behind the unwanted fibers, larger proteins, and long-chain carbohydrates. Once the pressure is released, the CO2 evaporates out of the extract — leaving behind pure cannabis phytochemicals.
At this stage, the product still contains all the other cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds contained in the hemp plant. Another process is required to isolate the CBD by essentially pulling out all non-CBD compounds. This is done through various stages of processing and refining like short-path distillation.
This process needs to happen several times to increase the potency to the 99.9% level. Each time the extract is purified, some product is lost. It’s in the company’s best interest to use the most efficient purification techniques possible.
