Flav CBD Salve

Flav’s CBD Salve is a simple, basic CBD rub. It has very low potency and therefore isn’t recommended for therapeutic use. The added antioxidants make it a potential skin enhancer and anti-aging formula. But without an ingredients list, it’s hard to judge whether it is, in fact, good for your skin.

Available in just one concentration of 50 mg for $29.99, this isn’t one of Flav’s best products.

Price/Value 2/5

Flav’s CBD Salve is expensive at $0.60 per mg CBD. The average price of CBD topicals ranges between $0.26 – $0.36 per mg CBD. Flav’s CBD Salve costs double the average price and doesn’t contain any other complementary ingredients other than antioxidants.

CBD Potency 2/5

The CBD potency is too low to have any therapeutic value topically. It contains only 1.36 mg/mL, falling short of the minimum 8 mg/mL we recommend for therapeutic CBD topical application.

Hemp Source 1/5

Flav doesn’t mention a hemp source. Despite having asked via email, Flav still didn’t disclose its hemp source, and there was no third-party testing found on the website.

Purpose/Uses 3/5

The salve contains antioxidants so it might be useful for maintaining skin health and warding off signs of ageing. Flav recommends this product for dealing with pain and inflammation, but the dosage is too low to produce this effect.

Product Variations 2/5

There’s only one CBD Salve available from Flav. There are no variations on concentration or formula. However, Flav does offer other CBD topical products such as a CBD Roll-On.

Formula 1/5

Flav doesn’t provide a list of ingredients for the CBD Salve. The company only mentions the added antioxidants and the CBD concentration of 50 mg.

Flav CBD Salve Review

CBD salve has become a common product offering. We wish we knew more about Flav’s CBD salve. Flav claims to include antioxidants to the formula, but the problem is we don’t know what’s in this product. Flav doesn’t provide a comprehensive list of ingredients, but judging from the texture, it’s most likely made with beeswax and oil for the base.

With only 50 mg CBD, this topical product isn’t considered to have high therapeutic value. The potency measures in at about 1.36 mg/mL. We generally recommend a minimum of 8 mg/mL for a CBD topical for remedial effects.

There are no variations on this product, meaning there’s no higher concentration available. With the added antioxidants, this product may be best used as an anti-ageing salve rather than for CBD therapy.

Overview: Flav CBD Salve

There’s not much to say about Flav’s CBD Salve because Flav doesn’t provide a comprehensive list of ingredients. It looks as though a CBD extract was dissolved in beeswax or carrier oil.

In terms of CBD potency, The product contains only 50 mg CBD and comes in a 44 mL jar for $29.99. This gives it a CBD potency of around 1.36 mg/mL. This concentration is too low to elicit a viable therapeutic effect.

Flav has added antioxidants to the formula. Typically, antioxidants keep skin protected from free radicals (otherwise known as reactive oxygen species). The effect is healthier skin and also an anti-ageing effect. Flav hasn’t added anything to the formula to support of pain or injury — which are the most common therapeutic uses of CBD topically.

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
  • Contains antioxidants

  • Very low potency
  • No CoA provided for CBD or hemp source
  • No ingredient list

Key Features & Benefits

1. The Formula Contains Antioxidants

Added antioxidants make Flav’s CBD salve useful for slowing down the ageing process and maintaining skin health. It’s the only thing Flav has added to the formula to support the work of CBD.

About The Company: Flav

Flav tends towards ambiguity, both in its product descriptions and its company information.

Flav’s “About” page shares information about CO2 extraction and federal and state cannabis law. There’s no company story or is there any information about where the company headquarters is or who runs it.

Flav claims to use 100% organic, lab-tested cannabis but doesn’t provide any documentation to support it. We requested a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) from Flav multiple times, but the company never replied.

Flav’s product line is extensive, but overall, the company omits vital information about the products themselves. None of Flav’s ingestible CBD products come with a comprehensive product description outlining the ingredients.

None of our attempts to uncover some information about Flav was successful. The company is secretive and unresponsive to requests for more information.

Who Should Consider Using Flav’s CBD Salve?

Judging by the low CBD concentration and the addition of antioxidants, Flav’s CBD Salve is probably best used as part of a basic, anti-ageing skincare regime. However, without a comprehensive list of ingredients, it’s unclear whether it would be beneficial for skin or not.

Sometimes it’s helpful to look at the product testimonials to understand what the product is designed for. Don’t take the testimonials too seriously, especially when they’re on the company website. It’s easy for brands to write or pay writers for fake testimonials to make claims the company may not be authorized to say due to FDA regulations.

These testimonials rave about the salve’s pain-relieving properties, but we’re not convinced there’s a high enough potency in the product to produce these results with only 1.36 mg of CBD/mL.

Those who are prone to skin irritations, skin allergies, or contact dermatitis should avoid buying this product, as there is no list of ingredients to accompany it.

Price/Value

Compared to other CBD topicals on the market, Flav’s CBD Salve is expensive. To put this into context, the average price of CBD topicals ranges between $0.26 – $0.36 per mg of CBD — Flav is asking for double that.

The CBD concentration is too low to warrant the $29.99 price tag for only 44 mL of product. Plus, the product doesn’t contain special ingredients or any complementary ingredients other than antioxidants.

CBD Potency

The potency of Flav’s CBD Salve is extremely low. At 1.36 mg/mL, it’s a fraction of what we recommend for a minimum CBD potency to achieve a therapeutic effect (at least 8 mg/mL). We don’t recommend this product for therapeutic use.

 Hemp Source

Flav doesn’t give any reference to its hemp source anywhere on its website. Flav doesn’t even mention if the hemp is grown in the USA or outside of the USA. Until recently, it was illegal to cultivate hemp in the USA for commercial purposes. Most American CBD manufacturers’ hemp came from Eastern Europe or China.

Now that hemp cultivation is legal in the USA, many companies are growing their own hemp, but Flav doesn’t mention that anywhere.

There is no Certificate of Analysis (CoA) to be found on Flav’s website either. Despite the company claiming to use organic cannabis, Flav hasn’t shared any information about growing practices or organic certifications.

When we requested more information from Flav (such as a CoA, list of ingredients, or information about growing standards), the company never responded to our emails.

Purpose/Uses

Most topical CBD products address muscular pain, skin disorders (eczema or psoriasis), or skin inflammation. To elicit an anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-killing) response from CBD, you want a potency of at least 8 mg/mL.

We’ve recommended products with less CBD in the past, but they often contained complementary ingredients to support CBD’s effects on the skin and muscles. Flav’s falls short with a concentration of only 1.36 mg/mL.

For this reason, we don’t recommend Flav’s CBD Salve for any therapeutic use. The added antioxidants may provide benefit in a skincare regime simply to maintain skin health and prevent ageing signs. However, without knowing the full list of ingredients, it’s impossible to assess whether it actually is good for the skin or not.

Formulation/Ingredients

The only thing Flav advertises about its CBD Salve is that it contains antioxidants and CBD. Aside from this, Flav hasn’t provided any information about ingredients. For that reason, we can’t break down the formula.

We have requested ingredient lists countless times for several Flav products but to no avail.

Flav’s Shipping & Returns Policy

Flav’s products can only be shipped within the USA for a flat rate of $6.95. Free shipping is available for orders over $75.

Flav typically doesn’t accept returns. The only circumstance Flav accepts returns is if the product is unopened and is returned within 7 days of receiving the item. However, this has to be done through the customer service team, which wasn’t very responsive to us. We anticipate some problems for customers who want to go through this process.

The Final Verdict: Bland, Basic, Lacking Potency

There’s nothing special about Flav’s CBD Salve. Even a simple CBD topical with no other complementary ingredients can be extremely therapeutic if it meets the correct potency. However, with low potency, almost no complimentary ingredients, and what seems to be a very basic beeswax base, there’s nothing to write home about here.

There are much better CBD salves on the market with higher potency and better value. While there doesn’t seem to be anything inherently wrong with the product, there’s just nothing special about it either.

Summary Introduction

Flav’s CBD Salve is a simple, basic CBD rub. It has very low potency and therefore isn’t recommended for therapeutic use. The added antioxidants make it a potential skin enhancer and anti-ageing formula. But without an ingredients list, it’s hard to judge whether it is, in fact, good for your skin.

Available in just one concentration of 50 mg for $29.99, this isn’t one of Flav’s best products.
