Flav CBD Capsules

Flav’s CBD Capsules are enriched with CBD, Schisandra fruit, sour jujube, biota seed and turmeric. Together, this formula is an adaptogenic supplement that can be used to combat stress and help adapt to environmental changes.

The packet contains seven capsules and costs $29.99, so for those wanting to use this product every day, we recommend stocking up! Seven capsules only last a week! It wouldn’t take long to break the bank using one of these capsules every day — it would be a yearly cost of over $1500.

Price/Value 4/5

Though the $29.99 price tag is considered on the higher end of average, this may be due to the inclusion of other complementary adaptogenic herbal supplements. Overall, it’s an average price for what you get when it comes to price per mg of CBD.

The only thing really weighing this product down is the complete lack of information on the hemp used to make this product.

CBD Potency 4/5

Each capsule contains 25 mg of CBD, making it an average dose for maintenance. The addition of other herbal ingredients adds a lot to the overall effects of this mix, however.

Hemp Source 1/5

Flav doesn’t talk about its hemp source. Even when we asked for more information, Flav never responded to our emails.

This is the main issue we found with this company, which was big enough to give the company the thumbs down. It’s the industry standard these days to list the source of their hemp, including public third-party lab assessments exploring the cannabinoid content, terpene content, and presence of contaminants like heavy metals or pesticides — none of which Flav offers.

Purpose/Uses 5/5

Flav’s formula for this product includes CBD and four adaptogenic herbs. It seems to be a stress-relieving formula based on herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This is one of the only products in the Flav lineup with a specific application in mind.

Product Variations 3/5

This is the only CBD capsule offered by Flav. Although this is a specialty item, it’s unfortunate that Flav doesn’t offer any other capsule options than this. There’s only one size, one potency, and one formula available.

Formulation/Ingredients 4/5

These CBD capsules contain a cocktail of adaptogenic herbs, formulated to manage stress — including shisandra, sour jujube, biota seed, and turmeric. All these herbs have adaptogenic, antioxidant, and gut-supportive effects that compliment the CBD nicely.

Flav CBD Capsules Review

Flav’s CBD Capsules are among the only products in Flav’s range that includes other complementary herbs. Aside from containing CBD, these capsules include turmeric, biota seed, Schisandra fruit, and sour jujube seed.

Together, these ingredients form an adaptogenic cocktail, appropriate for combating stress, especially for those prone to stress-related illnesses such as colds and flu.

Compared to Flav’s other formulas, this one is more comprehensive, comprising other herbs conducive to the work of CBD.

Overall, Flav adds some refinement to its range with these CBD Capsules, which is nice to see in a range that mainly boasts color, flavor, and variety.

Overview: CBD Capsules

The Flav CBD Capsules are formulated as an adaptogenic supplement, containing turmeric, biota seed, Schisandra fruit and sour jujube seed.

Adaptogenic herbs help the organism adapt to stress and changes in the environment. The active compounds in these herbs work through the central nervous system to assist in modulating the stress response.

Each capsule contains 25 mg of CBD, making it a mild, yet effective dose for its intended purpose (combating and adapting to stress).

Unfortunately, Flav hasn’t given any indication as to the concentrations of the other constituents in the capsules. Flav is notorious for omitting important ingredient information such as this. In this way, it’s hard to assess the potency of the capsule as an adaptogenic supplement.

Flav only includes seven capsules in the packet for a total damage of $29.99. That’s a total of 175 mg of CBD in the package of 7 pills — which doesn’t sound like much for the $29.99 price tag. Plus, Flav doesn’t tell us the concentration of all the other herbs, so assessing the value is hard.

In any case, there’s virtually no supplement that costs almost $30 for seven capsules. It’s a pretty expensive packet of capsules for those who are curious to try.

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
  • Addition of adaptogenic herbs

  • Very expensive
  • No indication of concentrations of other herbs
  • No CoA or hemp source provided

Key Features & Benefits

1. Complementary, Adaptogenic Herbs

Flav has chosen to add four adaptogenic herbs to its formula: turmeric, sour jujube seed, Schisandra fruit, and biota seed. Though all these herbs have individual actions — aside from being adaptogenic — their adaptogenic quality is something they all share.

Herbalist uses adaptogens as supportive herbs for the recovery or healing process. They’re not usually prescribed on their own.

2. Biota Seed: for Heart and Digestive Health

Biota seed is a herb brought to the western world by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Its traditional Chinese name is Bo Zi Ren or Bai Zi Ren, and its Latin name is Patycladus orientalis. It’s used in TCM to promote heart health and treat digestive issues such as constipation.

In the Western world, biota seed is sought for its fatty acid oils. It has also been demonstrated that biota seed has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticancer properties.

3. Schisandra: TCM’s Qi-invigorator

Schisandra fruit is also used widely in TCM. However, Schisandra is mainly used as a “Qi-invigorator” for the lungs.

In TCM, Qi deficiencies in the lung present themselves as asthma, wheezing, and coughing. Interestingly, Schisandra’s Qi-invigorating properties have also piqued the interest of academic scientists who found a potential biochemical explanation for this. In this study, scientists assert that Schisandra fortifies the mitochondrial antioxidant status of cells, and this may improve the tone and vigor of those cells.

Schisandra has also demonstrated anti-inflammatory and cardiac trophorestorative actions

About The Company: Flav

There’s not much to know about Flav’s company story. The company’s “About” page doesn’t describe anything about the personal story of the company, such as how it was founded or where it is located. It merely shares information about CO2 extraction and the state and federal laws surrounding cannabis in the United States.

Even the internet has nothing to say about Flav: there’s no Facebook page or online marketing except for an Instagram page, housing only around 50 stock photos. There are no customer reviews anywhere online except for on the Flav website.

Flav has a habit of omitting vital product information such as ingredient lists, a hemp source and a Certificate of Analysis (CoA). We prompted Flav for this information multiple times, but the customer service team never responded to our emails.

Overall, the Flav range shouts color, flavor, and variety. As a whole, the company seems to dedicate more time to developing a wide range of flavors than developing concise formulas for therapeutic uses.

Flav’s product range is mainly targeted to the novice or experimental CBD user. Flav’s CBD Capsules and CBD Roll-On are its more sophisticated formulas — but these products are expensive and don’t stack up on value.

Those looking for novelty ways to consume CBD products may enjoy browsing through Flav’s enormous range of products. However, the sheer enormity of the product range raises some questions with regards to quality and assurance — an aspect of business that Flav hasn’t mastered at all.

Who Should Consider Using Flav’s CBD Capsules?

Flav’s CBD Capsules are designed to support stress management. Adaptogenic herbs are typically used to modulate the stress response, so that might be the most appropriate use of this product.

However, we don’t recommend Flav’s CBD Capsules for somebody using CBD as an everyday supplement. One capsule a day would cost almost $30 per week, making it expensive and unsustainable as a daily supplement.

Price/Value

These capsules cost more than your average CBD capsule because it contains other complementary herbs. However, without knowing the exact concentrations of those other herbs, it’s hard to assess its true value. In any case, we consider this to be on the higher side of “average” when it comes to cost.

Hemp Source

Flav’s hemp source is a complete mystery. Flav doesn’t mention the hemp source anywhere on its website and doesn’t provide a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for quality and assurance.

Flav claims to use 100% organic, lab-tested cannabis but doesn’t provide any documentation to support these claims.

We would have liked to see an organic certification or a Certificate of Analysis. We requested these documents from Flav, but the customer service team never replied to our emails.

At the very least, CBD product manufacturers should provide a CoA or information about the hemp source on request. Not all companies advertise this information openly but usually offer it to customers who ask for it.

Flav’s lack of responsiveness further accentuates Flav’s tendencies towards secrecy, which makes it hard for customers to develop a trusting relationship with Flav.

Purpose/Uses

Flav’s CBD Capsules are, in essence, herbal supplements. The ingredient list suggests that they are to be used as an overall health tonic, reducing the degree of stress on the organism and encouraging adaptation.

The herbs themselves also have pronounced anti-inflammatory effects, and so the capsules may exert this effect on the body. These capsules are generalized supplements for supplementary CBD use rather than for the treatment of acute symptoms.

Formulation/Ingredients

Flav hasn’t given a comprehensive list of ingredients for these capsules. The company has outlined the main herbal constituents:

  • CBD
  • Schisandra fruit
  • Sour jujube seed
  • Biota seed
  • Turmeric

This formula is adaptogenic — although CBD itself is not considered adaptogenic, it is an antioxidant. Virtually all of these other listed ingredients have antioxidant effects, which also contribute to their adaptogenic qualities.

Interestingly, Flav has chosen herbs that are fundamental to the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These are not typically herbs dispensed by Western herbalists but commonly found on the shelves of TCM practitioners.

While biota seed is used in TCM to promote heart health and manage digestive issues, Schisandra is used to balance the vital energy of the lungs.

The formula Flav has chosen may be used as an overall body tonic, promoting the health of the entire organism rather than targeting a single organ.

Flav’s Shipping & Returns Policy

Flav ships within the US only at a flat rate of $6.95. For orders over $75, free shipping is offered.

Flav only accepts returns for unopened products within seven days of receiving the item. This has to be fulfilled through the customer service team. Judging by how unresponsive the customer service team was with our requests, we anticipate this to be a tedious process.

The Final Verdict: Traditional Formula For Overall Health

Flav has chosen a particularly unique formula for its CBD Capsules, revolving mainly around herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The adaptogenic formula serves as a useful tool for combating stress or adapting to environmental changes.

If there is anything Flav could have done better for this product, it’s to be more open about the hemp source and provide a CoA. It also would have been nice to see exact concentrations of each of the ingredients to understand better the formula and what it can be used for.

To make this product accessible to more people, Flav could sell these capsules in one-month supply bottles (30 capsules). This would make the capsules ideal for long term use.
