True Blue Terpenes Review

Cannabis-derived terpenes are all the rage these days. They’re made from high-grade essential oil extracts of raw cannabis and marijuana flowers. They contain pure terpenes — which means there’s no CBD or THC in any of these products.

True Blue is a leader in the online terpene space, offering a large and diverse lineup of strain-specific terp extracts and individual flavors.

Mission / Charity 3/5

True Blue doesn’t really have any clear mission other than to sell terpene concentrates. We couldn’t find any evidence that the company donates to charity or provides extra value for their work.

Product Range 5/5

This brand has one of the largest and most diverse lineups of plant terpene concentrates we’ve ever seen. There are over 100 individual items on the company’s website, each with several different sizing options to choose from.

Innovation 5/5

For a terpene company, this brand is very innovative. They make individual extracts as well as a variety of custom-formulations like birthday cake, apple fritter, and more — all made from a combination of existing extracts at different ratios to produce the desired flavor.

Safety 3/5

While there’s nothing inherently dangerous in these extracts, and they’re made from pure terpene concentrates — we feel this company is missing an important level of assurance. There is no testing whatsoever on the website to determine the terpene profile or prove that these oils are additive-free, like the company claims.

Customer Service 5/5

We had some back and forth with the customer service team to assess their level of involvement and have nothing negative to say on this point. Shipping is tracked and sent within three days of ordering. We received our order in less than a week from the date of purchase.

True Blue Terpene Review

What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are a group of compounds produced in various plants, including cannabis. These compounds are volatile — which means they evaporate into the air at relatively low temperatures.

Once in the air, they enter our noses to register a particular aroma. Terpenes are the primary source of fragrance for many plants. Every time you smell lavender, rosemary, citrus fruits, or cannabis — what you’re actually smelling are the terpenes as they evaporate off the plant material.

A terpene concentrate is made by extracting these volatile compounds from the cannabis plant.

You can buy individual terpenes to add to shatters, CBD oils, or vape oils to give it an extra kick of flavor and potency. Many terpenes have their own set of medicinal benefits that can be used to boost the effects of CBD products.

About the Company: True Blue Terpenes

True Blue is a specialist in the cannabis-derived terpene industry. They have a very large lineup of different terpene products to choose from — consisting of over 40 strain-specific terpene blends and more than 60 individual flavor additives.

None of these products contain CBD, THC, or any other cannabinoid — just 99% pure terpene concentrate.

Products Offered By True Blue Terpenes

True Blue only sells one type of product — concentrated terpene and flavor extracts.

Despite the limited selection of categories, this company has one of the largest lineups of individual terpene products we’ve ever seen.

1. Cannabis-Derived Terpenes: Strains

These products are made to capture the naturally-occurring terpene profile of some of the most popular strains of hemp and marijuana.

To make these products, the dried flower is run through a process of steam distillation and supercritical CO2 to strip away and concentrate the volatile components — basically the essential oil.

Each of these strains has a unique combination of terpenes — which impacts the flavor and effect profiles.

If you have a favorite strain of marijuana or hemp and want to add its character to your CBD concentrate of vape oils, this is a perfect way to do it. You only need a few drops of this stuff each time, so a single 5 mL bottle should last a long time.

All of these strain extracts cost the same amount:

  • 5 mL — $50
  • 25 mL — $225
  • 50 mL — $400
  • 100 mL — $700

How to Use Terpene Extracts

Terpene extracts are used by adding a few drops to your CBD concentrate, oil, flower, or vape oil.

True Blue recommends starting with a 3% concentration of cannabis terpenes at first. You can then increase by 0.5% increments each day up to a total of 6%.

You’re probably wondering what this means. What is a 3% terpene concentration?

You can check out our guide on using terpene concentrates to learn more and try out our terpene calculator.

To make things simple, if you want a 3% terpene concentration in a 30 mL bottle of CBD oil, you’ll need to add 25 drops of terpenes to the bottle and give it a good shake. You can add this amount regardless of the CBD content of the oil.

For hemp flower, add about one drop for every gram of flower. It works best to add this to a sealed jar and give it a good shake when you’re done. Make sure to let the jar sit for at least 2 hours after adding the terpenes to allow it to dissolve evenly through the flower.

Final Verdict: A Reliable Source of Terp Extract

We weren’t a big fan of the company’s website and feel like there was a lot of information missing — specifically around providing test results for each of these extracts to prove they’re made from real terpene extracts and not synthetic fragrance oil.

However, after testing some of these extracts, it’s clear the company is using the real deal.

We also didn’t like that this brand asks for your credit card information on a non-secure checkout page long before even calculating the shipping or tax for the order.

With all of that aside, this company offers an incredibly large and diverse variety of terpene extracts made from well-known marijuana strains and various individual fruit or flower flavor extracts.

The cost for a single bottle of concentrate may seem expensive at first, but one bottle will last the average user a very long time. For every gram of weed or hemp, you only need one to two drops of this stuff. For a whole bottle of CBD oil, you only need about one mL — which means you’ll get about five bottles worth (about 3 – 5 months supply) for a single 5 mL bottle.
