CBD For Life CBD Eye Serum

The CBD eye serum is one of the CBD-infused skincare products offered by New Jersey company CBD For Life. This product takes a standard eye serum formula and infuses it CBD isolate.

Although this serum sounds appealing, it has too little CBD to offer significant skin benefits. Also, while CBD For Life claims to offer a natural formula, this product contains several questionable ingredients, some of which may have harmful effects.

Coupled with its relatively high price, we don’t think this product has much to offer in comparison to a standard, cheaper eye serum.

Price/Value 1/5

The pure CBD eye serum retails for $32.00 for a 15 mL bottle. It contains 60 mg of CBD with a cost of $0.53 per mg CBD. This is already somewhat costly, and we don’t think this product contains enough CBD to offer much value.

CBD Potency 1/5

CBD For Life’s pure CBD eye serum has a low CBD potency of 4 mg/mL. We don’t think this low of a CBD potency is useful for any topical application. On top of this, the area around the eye is small and delicate; you’re unlikely to use a full mL of the product here.

Hemp Source 2/5

CBD For Life sources hemp from a Colorado farm that uses organic and sustainable farming practices, including USDA-certified organic soil. However, no certifications are available to substantiate these claims.

Additionally, third-party lab results are only available upon request and lack tests for contaminants.

Purpose/Uses 2/5

Eye serums are specialized products designed to target skin concerns around the eyes, such as fine lines, dark circles, discoloration, and puffiness. Although the ingredients contained may help with these concerns, we don’t think there’s enough CBD to lend any significant benefits.

Product Variations 3/5

The pure CBD eye serum is only available in a 15 mL pump bottle, and it’s not available in any other potency option or fragrance. However, because it’s a highly specialized product, we don’t expect to see many variations.

Formulation/Ingredients 1/5

Although the ingredients used in this product are not foreign to skincare, some of them are controversial and disappointing for a brand that promotes natural wellness. It seems like CBD For Life took a generic eye serum, added minuscule amounts of CBD, and rebranded the product as a premium wellness preparation. It’s these types of companies we’re trying to avoid in the largely unregulated CBD market.

CBD For Life CBD Eye Serum Review

The topic of eye serums, in general, is a hot debate. Some beauty gurus swear by them, while others believe eye serums are just another marketing ploy. It may not offer anything that a decent facial moisturizer can’t already do.

Whatever the case, many companies are beginning to add CBD to skincare products, including eye serums. Unfortunately, it can be challenging to find products that make good use of this beneficial compound. After all, simply adding a little CBD to eye serum is not enough to guarantee quality and efficacy.

In this review, we’ll be discussing one such product: CBD For Life’s pure CBD eye serum. Read on to find out why we don’t think it deserves a spot in your skincare regimen.

Overview: CBD Eye Serum

The pure CBD eye serum is part of CBD For Life’s self-care product line. Like most eye serums, it’s designed to support the skin under your eyes, helping with wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness, and other common issues.

Like the company’s other products, this serum contains standard cosmetic ingredients such as glycerin, silicone (cyclopentasiloxane), plant oils, and herbal extracts mixed together with >99% pure CBD.

The use of CBD in eye serum makes sense as it has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and other potentially beneficial properties.

This serum comes in a 15 mL (0.5 oz) bottle with 60 mg of CBD, which gives it a fairly low potency. It retails for $32.00 — a steep price for a tiny package.

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
  • May improve makeup application
  • Free of parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, and artificial coloring
  • Pump bottle
  • Contains potential skin-irritating ingredients
  • Low CBD potency
  • Incomplete third-party testing
  • Expensive

Key Features & Benefits

1. May Help Makeup Application

This CBD eye serum is silicone-based, which may help fill in the fine lines around the eyes. You can add your concealers, foundation, and eye shadow over top of this product for a smooth application.

2. Free of Parabens, Phthalates, Formaldehyde, and Artificial Coloring

Although considered safe in low doses, some studies have found phthalates and parabens to affect hormone function. The European Union has banned the inclusion of phthalates in products in 2012 for this reason. If you have sensitive skin, it’s best to avoid these ingredients altogether.

3. Pump Bottle

This CBD eye serum comes with a pump bottle, which makes it easier to apply under the eye since you only need small amounts in this delicate area.

About the Company: CBD For Life

CBD For Life is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2015. It exists in a niche where health and wellness meet beauty. Its product lineup includes CBD-infused haircare and skincare products alongside standard CBD preparations such as tinctures.

Unfortunately, CBD For Life is somewhat deceptive: it does not make its third-party test results publicly available, and the tests we were given often showed less CBD than advertised — a major red flag.

Who Should Consider Using CBD For Life’s CBD Eye Serum?

CBD For Life’s pure CBD eye serum caters to beauty enthusiasts looking to add CBD into their beauty routine, particularly for supporting the skin around the eye. However, we’re not entirely certain the amount of CBD present is enough to provide significant benefits.

Price/Value

The pure CBD eye serum retails for $32.00 for a 15 mL (0.50 fl. oz) with 60 mg of CBD. This means it costs $0.53 per mg of CBD. Although some of the cost is due to the other ingredients, this serum is still a tad expensive.

CBD Potency

This eye serum is one of the only CBD For Life products that matches the advertised CBD content. The third-party lab test reveals 59.4 mg of CBD.

Unfortunately, the potency of this product is only 4 mg/mL, which is relatively low. On top of this, you’re not using one full mL of the product with every application. It’s simply too much product for such a small, delicate area as the skin under the eye.

As such, although we can’t discount some benefits from this amount of CBD, we can say they won’t be very significant.

Hemp Source

CBD For Life says it sources its hemp from an organic, sustainable farm in Colorado. However, there aren’t any organic certifications to substantiate this claim.

Also, the company doesn’t make its third-party test results public, and we had to email them to see the CBD potency tests for this product. Although these documents confirm that the serum contains as much CBD as advertised, there were no third-party tests for contaminants such as pesticides.

Purpose/Uses

Like most eye serums, this product is recommended to deal with common under-eye issues such as fine lines, puffiness, dryness, and dark circles.

The ingredients present seem to be particularly aimed at moisturizing and helping with fine lines. Unfortunately, based on the low CBD potency of this product, we’re not convinced CBD adds much value to this serum.

Formulation/Ingredients

The pure CBD eye serum contains a long list of ingredients commonly used in skincare and specifically eye serum products.

It’s a silicone-based eye serum containing cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone. Silicone-based skincare is controversial. It’s what gives the serum a silky, slippery texture and when applied to the skin, can temporarily fill in the fine lines and improve makeup application.

However, those with sensitive skin may experience adverse reactions to silicone. It can clog pores and cause rashes. The key with silicones is to use it in moderation and to test it on other areas of your skin before you apply it to the delicate area around your eyes.

This serum also includes many oils used to hydrate and protect the skin, including:

  • hemp seed oil
  • avocado oil
  • grapeseed oil
  • soybean oil
  • olive oil

Other notable ingredients with antioxidant and other potential benefits include Camellia sinensis (green tea), Coffea robusta seed (coffee beans), and retinol (vitamin A).

However, CBD For Life’s serum also has some questionable ingredients, especially for a company branding itself as “natural.”

For example, ceteareth-20 and polysorbate-60 together can create the byproduct, 1,4-dioxane — an animal carcinogen with the potential to cause skin allergies. Additionally, triethanolamine may be harmful to the skin if applied in the long term.

And although the company claims that its products are formaldehyde-free, EDTA is a preservative made from formaldehyde, which may cause an allergic reaction in some people.

For a brand that promotes natural wellness, CBD For Life disappoints us in its product ingredients.

It’s as if CBD For Life took a generic eye serum formula and added minuscule amounts of CBD extract, repackaged it, put its logo on it, and sold it with a premium price tag.

CBD For Life’s Shipping and Return Policy

CBD For Life ships throughout the United States. It offers a 30 day 100% satisfaction guarantee for its products; refund requests must be emailed to [email protected]. Only unused items qualify for a refund, minus the cost of shipping and handling.

Final Verdict: Not Worth A Spot In Your Beauty Regimen

CBD For Life’s eye serum is purely cosmetic and doesn’t contain enough CBD to offer significant benefits.

For a brand that leverages itself as a natural, we were alarmed at this product’s formulation. There are multiple synthetic, potentially harmful ingredients.

On top of this, the CBD potency is too low to offer the cannabinoid’s anti-inflammatory and other benefits. Combined with its lofty price, we don’t see a reason to buy this product. We recommend sticking to established skincare products from specialized, reputable brands.
