Kat’s Naturals Review
Kat’s Naturals sell a variety of CBD products from oils, to creams and salves, to pet oils. The brand was started by a clinical nutritionist/herbalist — which is demonstrated by the intelligent formulations the company uses in its products.
The company often adds other herbal extracts to CBD in order to provide greater benefit than CBD is able to offer on its own.
We love Kat’s Naturals products and often recommend them for specific applications thanks to their laser-focused design. The company offers topicals with and without warming effects, full-spectrum and isolate tinctures, sleep support tinctures, pain-relief oils, and even a formula for metabolic health.
Even with all this innovation in product formulation and design, Kat’s Naturals remains affordable to the general population.
Mission / Charity5/5
Kat’s Naturals was founded by an American herbalist/nutritionist with a passion for natural, holistic medicines. Her motivation for the company was to help her husband and others suffering from PTSD symptoms through CBD oil.
Hemp Source4/5
Kat’s Naturals hemp is organically grown and sourced from local Southeastern United States farms. Its hemp source does not currently have USDA organic certifications, but lab reports show the extracts used to be clean from contaminants.
Product Range4/5
Kat’s Naturals offers a diverse product range including oils, creams, activated hemp flower, and face serum. They manufacture over a dozen top-notch CBD products intelligently formulated to contain other beneficial herbs and supplements.
These other ingredients really help to dial the effects of a particular product in for a specific purpose — such as sleep support, muscle recovery, pain-relief, and more.
Innovation5/5
This company is really innovating on the use of other herbal ingredients in their tincture formulas — and others are just now starting to follow suit.
They’re leaders in the CBD-formulation space for their topicals as well. They offer three incredibly effective pain-creams using high-potency CBD extracts, and herbal extracts like capsaicin and arnica.
Safety4/5
Kat’s Naturals provides a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each product, but it doesn’t appear to be updated regularly on the website. After reaching out to customer service reps to provide for up to date lab tests, they were all promptly sent over to us. However, not all products had complete CoAs.
We’ve docked an extra point here because of Kat’s Naturals inconsistency when it comes to publishing all third-party lab tests. There are a handful of products that do not have a contamination report (mycotoxins, pesticides, heavy metals, microbes). It’s an essential part of quality control.
Customer Service 5/5
Many people online are raving about the speed and efficiency of Kat’s Naturals customer service. In our own experience, the company was fast and helpful in email responses. Kat’s Naturals also provides a 30-day money-back satisfaction guarantee on its products.
Kat’s Naturals was founded in 2015 after Kat Merryfield found success in helping her husband with PTSD symptoms using CBD. She then started her own lineup of CBD tinctures and salves that have since become very popular across the United States.
More recently, the company partnered with Direct CBD Online — one of the largest distributors of CBD products in North America. The partnership allowed Kat’s Naturals to focus on what they’re good at (making CBD products), and leave the distribution to the professionals. Distribution of CBD products takes a lot of effort and can be incredibly frustrating. Every country and state has its own CBD laws and taxes. To make matters worse, these laws change all the time.
Where Does Kat’s Naturals Source Its Hemp?
Kat’s Naturals gets its hemp from the Southern States, Tennessee and Kentucky. It’s unclear whether the company does their own extractions in-house, or order extracts from a third-party.
What makes Kat’s Naturals special isn’t the hemp they use, but how they use it. This company is known for its complex herbal formulas using CBD and other beneficial, often synergistic herbs such as ginger, cinnamon, hops, and lavender.
Using Merryfield’s knowledge in herbal and nutritional medicine, these products include essential oils and other botanical extracts to further leverage the effects of CBD for its intended purpose.
Let’s get into each product category in more detail.
This peppermint flavored sublingual oil contains the highest potency oil available in its product range with 1500 mg in a 30 mL bottle (50 mg per mL). That’s equivalent to about 2.50 mg per drop.
The product description on the website recommends taking about 3 – 5 drops for 7,5 – 12,5 mg per dose.
Heal is available in 5 mL ($35), 15 mL ($99), and 30mL ($165) bottles.
Naked has the same 1500 mg high-potency as Heal, but it comes without the peppermint essential oil and added terpenes. This product was formulated for those who have sensitivities to essential oils and prefer the raw hemp flavor.
The strength is comparable to Heal with 50 mg of CBD per mL of oil.
It’s available in 5 mL ($35), 15 mL ($99), and 30 mL ($165) bottles.
Metabolize has a medium potency at 500 mg of CBD and contains a blend of essential oils — ginger, grapefruit, lemon, cinnamon, and peppermint — for an energizing CBD supplement.
As the name implies, this product is mainly used to support metabolic processes. Some people use this as a weight-loss supportive — but it’s important to always speak with a doctor before using CBD for weight loss. You also need to incorporate other diet and lifestyle changes to get the most out of the CBD for this application.
With every drop, you’ll receive 0.83 mg of CBD or 16.5 mg of CBD per mL.
Metabolize is available in 5 mL ($20), 15 mL ($55), and 30 mL ($90) bottles.
Relax is formulated to ease an overactive mind. With 300 mg of CBD per 30 mL bottle, this is Kat’s Naturals low-potency formula. It contains hops and wild orange essential oils to help calm the mind from stress and anxiety. It’s one of our top-rated CBD oils for sleep.
The only problem we have with this tincture is the potency of CBD — so you may need to take more of this oil at a time than some of the other options.
Every dropper full (1 mL) contains 10 mg of CBD or 0.50 mg of CBD per drop.
Relax is available in 5 mL ($18), 15 mL ($35), and 30 mL ($60) bottles.
Restore is the high-potency formula in the full-spectrum oil product line with 1500 mg of CBD per 30 mL bottle.
Similar to the best-selling oil Heal, Restore is flavored with organic peppermint essential oil, but it’s infused in MCT coconut oil instead of hemp oil.
Restore is available in 5 mL ($35), 15 mL ($99), and 30 mL ($165) bottles.
Kat’s Naturals recommends Balance for lifting the mood and improving digestive health. The carrier oil used in this oil is MCT coconut oil, and it also contains peppermint essential oil. This oil is essentially the exact same as the Restore oil — the difference is that balance has half the potency.
This product is advertised to contain 750 mg CBD per 30 mL of oil. This makes the potency around 25 mg CBD per mL.
Each drop contains around 0.6 mg of CBD.
Available in 5 mL ($25), 15 mL ($72), and 30 mL ($140) bottles.
This is designed specifically for your dog or cat. It’s the same concentration of CBD as the Relax CBD oil but comes without the essential oil content.
It’s recommended to place in the ears or mouth of your pet to “boost your furry friend’s health and provide relief from anxiety, pain, inflammation, urinary incontinence, seizures and more”.
Pet Care delivers 10 mg CBD per mL and around 0.25 mg per drop.
Available in 15 mL ($45), and 30 mL ($75) bottles.
If you’re looking for a high-potency oil to give your pets, Kat’s Naturals also recommends using the Naked THC-Free sublingual oil.
This is one of Kat’s Naturals pain-relieving creams, advertised for arthritis and sore muscles. It contains other compounds such as avocado and almond butter, emu oil, and hemp seed oil to nourish and protect the skin.
This product also incorporates the beneficial healing properties arnica (Arnica montana) and the anti-inflammatory essential oils of frankincense, lavender, and lemongrass.
Each bottle contains 350 mg of CBD per 30 mL.
This pain cream is available in 30 mL ($45), and 120 mL ($160) containers.
This is the Tiger Balm of the CBD world. It contains warming, rubefacient herbs such as cayenne peppers (capsaicin), ginger, juniper, marjoram, rosemary, and black pepper. A 30 mL container has 350 mg of CBD.
This product is ideal for sore muscles and joints, and for mild-moderate arthritic pain. Because of its warming effects, it’s best avoided if you have sensitive skin.
Available in 30 mL ($45), 120 mL ($160), and 10 travel-sized (5 mL each) ($50) containers.
This cream contains 600 mg of CBD in the 40 mL easy-click applicator.
The formula is similar to the cream with arnica, but this includes an agent that enhances its absorption into the skin. This increases the overall efficacy of the product, making the Professional Strength cream an ultra high-potency product for pain relief and inflammation
The Professional Strength CBD Cream is only available in the one 40 mL size ($70).
The skin serum is a CBD oil but its specifically intended for use on the skin. It promises to maintain a youthful complexion by nourishing the epidermis — which is the outermost layer of skin designed to protect us from the elements.
The skin serum contains chamomile and lavender essential oils, and carrot, pumpkin and rosehip seed carrier oils that are non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores). The CBD content of this oil is 250 mg per 30 mL.
Available in 15 mL ($40), and 30 mL ($75) bottles.
This is a product we haven’t seen before. The bag contains decarboxylated (heat-activated) full-spectrum hemp buds with coconut oil. It was formulated for people who have trouble holding the oil drops under the tongue.
According to Kat’s Naturals, hemp flowers make a great addition to smoothies, granola, or any baked goods.
This is an interesting product, but we didn’t really like adding these chunky buds to our smoothies. This might be better incorporated in baked goods or used to make your own CBD creams and salves.
Each teaspoon is reported to contain about 9 mg of CBD.
Kat’s Naturals, like almost every other CBD manufacturer out there, advertises its hemp quality.
From what we can tell, Kat’s Naturals uses a premium organic hemp source. Unfortunately, the state of Tennesee doesn’t have organic certifications for cannabis products. Kat’s Naturals does take the extra measures to have its products tested by third-party labs to verify its potency and quality. However, we wish Kat’s Naturals would also share the contamination report for all its products.
Hemp’s not the only star of the show.
In fact, Kat’s Naturals leverage several other key herbs to give its products an edge — Herbs such as arnica for injuries, lavender, and hops for promoting relaxation, and cinnamon, cayenne, and ginger for its rubefacient (warming) effects.
This makes a lot of sense coming from a brand leveraging the expertise of its herbalist and nutritionist founder, Kat Merryfield.
Where Could Kat’s Naturals Improve?
Overall, we really like these products and would vouch for Kat’s Naturals as a dependable CBD brand.
However, there are a few things its advertising that doesn’t make much sense.
Let’s start with the most obvious:
1. CBD Isolates are Not Natural or Recommended by Most Herbalists
There are a lot of herbalists coming out of America using the Appeal to Nature logical fallacy to its advantage but throwing its belief by the wayside for business gains.
This sounds harsh, but let me explain.
The Appeal to Nature logical fallacy is a false idea that if something is “natural” it must be good — and if it’s “unnatural” it must be bad.
We can attest to the idea that placing an emphasis on plant-based medicines and good nutrition are excellent forms of medicine, but this logical fallacy is unproductive.
Kat’s Naturals advocates the naturalness of its products and leverages the authority of its herbalist founder to sell CBD oils, creams, and hemp flower, yet… wait for it… use supercritical CO2 extracted CBD isolates tested to be 99.9% pure.
This is in no way, shape, or form a natural process. It eliminates precisely 99.9% of the other natural compounds in the hemp plant.
Supercritical CO2 extraction is a business tool in the CBD industry to advertise high-dose CBD concentrations, and it’s used to streamline the manufacturing process. If its products are as natural as it preaches, Kat’s Naturals would be selling more full-spectrum hemp oils — or even better, live resin extracts.
CBD is great, but it’s strongest in combination with the other 65+ cannabinoids, as well as the 100+ essential oils found in the cannabis plant. The cannabinoids, terpenes, and phytonutrients work in synergy to deliver optimal health benefits from the plant — this is also known as the entourage effect.
2. Why Advertise Essential Fatty Acid Content?
We see this throughout the product descriptions. Yes, hemp-seed oil contains an excellent source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
But this is irrelevant in the doses recommended (literally a few drops).
Our daily requirement for essential fatty acids is in the realm of 1.5 grams. That’s 1500 mg!
There is no way that taking 4–10 drops of these products are going to meet our daily requirements. In fact, it delivers less than 0.1 mg of fatty acids.
This is another area where Kat’s Naturals is using healthy buzzwords to sell a product, yet offers no actual support in this area.
Shameful coming from a nutritionist, to be completely honest.
3. Essential Oils are Not Enough to Produce the Effects Advertised
There seems to be a common trend with this company.
I’ll save you some repetition and just point out the fact that the doses of the essential oils used in these products are far too low to be doing what they promise in some formulas.
See an example using the 350 mg CBD Cream with Arnica:
Lemongrass essential oil: It acts as an overall tonic to the body’s systems.* It’s also purifying and toning to the skin. Contains Geranial, neral, Geraniol terpenes.
Aside from adding a pleasant scent, it’s not likely the lemongrass essential in this cream is offering anything in the way of therapeutic benefit.
4. We Wish It Shared All Certificate of Analysis Reports For Its Products
As we briefly touched on earlier, Kat’s Naturals seems to have a dependable hemp source. All products are tested for cannabinoid profile and potency. However, there are several products that haven’t been tested for contaminants (mycotoxins, solvents, heavy metals, pesticides). This may have been an oversight by Kat’s Naturals, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s a key part of demonstrating a commitment to quality control across the brand.
We would love to see Kat’s Naturals share batch testing results for all its products including the contaminant report for transparency.
Kat’s Naturals Shipping & Return Policy
Kat’s Naturals offers international shipping to the following countries:
The cost of shipping is determined at the checkout and depends on the destination.
Kat’s Naturals has a generous 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not happy with your product, you can contact the customer service team who can offer an exchange or full refund. However, the return/exchange shipping will come out of your pocket.
Final Verdict: One of the Best CBD Manufacturers You’ll Find
Having analyzed the entire product line-up in detail, we conclude Kat’s Naturals has some top-notch products. We love its formulas, and the way the company presents itself.
The company values locally-sourced hemp, organic farming practices, and third-party testing. All of this is excellent and should be the standard in the CBD and cannabis industry (it’s not).
We also like that Kat’s Naturals included other herbs in the formulas to further boost the uses it’s advertised for, but the marketing team needs to be more transparent about the effects of the other herbal ingredients. Some benefits don’t apply when taken in very little amounts.
This brand has some excellent quality creams and salves, and we find the activated hemp edibles very interesting. We’ve done many reviews, but have never seen anything like the activated hemp flowers before.
The parts we’re not big fans of is that despite having a herbalist/nutritionist founder, Kat’s Naturals seem hypocritical in its use of the word “natural”, and in our opinion, have the fundamental flaw of using CBD isolates in most of its products.
Overall, we still recommend this brand for its commitment to high standards in manufacturing and innovate formulas. Kat’s Naturals now ships internationally to select countries! There are different shipping options available, depending on your budget and how urgent you need your products.
