Best CBD Company Reviews: Top CBD Oil Brands & Manufacturers [2022]

The Brothers Apothecary CBD-Infused Tea

The Brothers Apothecary really nailed it with this lineup of herbal hemp-infused teas.

They offer 10 different flavors of these delicious CBD teas that combine full-spectrum hemp with coconut milk powder and a blend of other medicinal and aromatic herbs.

You can find these teas formulated for things like sleep support, pain relief, stress and anxiety, and more.

We really enjoy these teas and would highly recommend them for anybody else who takes tea seriously.

Price/Value 3/5

When it comes to the price per mg of CBD, these are a great value ringing in at $0.08 per mg. These teas are made with high-quality organic, third-party tested hemp and include other medicinal herbs.

We like that this company offers bundles — however, the 8-pack gift bundle doesn’t offer any discount whatsoever. Since teas are generally a pricier way to consume CBD, it would be helpful to offer some sort of discount to purchase in bulk.

CBD Potency 5/5

At an estimated 70 mg of CBD per tea sachet, this is a high potency product. Ingesting CBD in tea isn’t the most bioavailable way to consume CBD because the gut and liver break down active compounds. The Brothers Apothecary’s answer to this is to have a higher CBD content along with coconut milk to bind the cannabinoid to a lipid for better absorption in the body.

Hemp Source 4/5

The Brothers Apothecary only uses high-quality, locally grown, organic hemp and has the third-party lab tests to prove its cannabinoid profile, potency, and that it’s free from heavy metals and pesticides.

We can’t give this source a 5/5 yet because it doesn’t have the USDA organic certificate — but it’s not completely The Brothers Apothecary’s fault. As of right now, it’s incredibly difficult to achieve certified-organic status for American-grown hemp.

Purpose/Uses 5/5

CBD tea is exactly what it sounds like — a drinkable form of CBD combined with other herbs to enhance not only its flavor but its effects too. There are CBD teas in this lineup for just about any of the most common reasons someone would want to use CBD.

Product Variations 4/5

The CBD Tea is The Brothers Apothecary’s cornerstone product line. With more than 10 different flavors to choose from, you’re bound to find a tea you’ll love. We just wish The Brothers Apothecary carried these teas in larger quantities instead of the three-sachet pack offered.

Formulation/Ingredients 5/5

The Brothers Apothecary CBD teas have some of the best formulas we’ve come across in this category. It uses whole hemp flower to maintain the full-spectrum cannabinoid profile, includes other therapeutic herbs, and coconut milk to improve CBD’s bioavailability.

What is CBD Tea?

CBD can be added to virtually anything, including tea leaves.

CBD teas are made by infusing the dried leaves of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), or other herbs with hemp extract. As your tea steeps in the hot water, the active ingredients in the hemp diffuse into the brew along with it.

This form of CBD isn’t the strongest, but it does add a nice layer of relaxation to an already calming cup of tea.

The best CBD teas are made with a water-soluble CBD extract to help it dissolve into the water more efficiently. CBD is inherently a water-phobic (doesn’t mix with water) compound. So teas made without water-soluble CBD are slightly less efficient.

About The Company: The Brothers Apothecary

Two real-life brothers, Shane and Jesse Richardson started Portland’s first CBD tea company in 2015. The Richardson brothers share a passion for cannabis and natural wellness. They were looking to make CBD products that used minimally processed ingredients, including the hemp itself.

Most of The Brothers Apothecary products are made with whole hemp flower to maintain the natural cannabinoids, terpenes, and phytonutrients of the plant for the entourage effect.

The hemp flower tea blends have been The Brothers Apothecary staple. Today, the brand has over 10 teas and offers CBD-infused honey, topical formulas, THC-free and tobacco-free smokable blends, and capsules.

What Are the Benefits of CBD Tea?

Teas are one of the most common ways of incorporating medicinal herbs into your lifestyle, and it’s been an esteemed practice for thousands of years.

These teas are a perfect introduction to the benefits of CBD.

CBD has been shown to help alleviate symptoms and treat conditions including pain, epilepsy, nausea, insomnia, and inflammation.

Teas aren’t going to be able to provide the strongest dose of CBD, so they’re more suitable for people experiencing only minor symptoms.

Cost & Potency

With the exception of the Mighty Matcha, each tea package contains 3 tea bags with roughly 70 mg of CBD per sachet.

The Mighty Matcha delivers 14 g of ceremonial grade matcha in every serving with an estimated 100 mg of CBD for 7 servings per package.

Each tea package costs $15, and you can purchase an 8-pack gift set (which excludes the Mighty Matcha) for $120.

The simplest way we’ve found to compare prices between brands is to calculate the cost of the product divided by the amount of CBD contained.

This will give us an idea of the cost per mg of CBD — Of course, there are many factors that contribute to the price of the product (quality of hemp, third-party lab testing, additional ingredients, and charitable programs, etc.)

Cost & Potency Breakdown of the Brothers Apothecary Hemp-Infused Teas

Product ImageProduct NameTotal Price Total CBD Content Cost per mg CBD CBD Dose (mg per Serving)
CBD Tea1 pack, 3 pack, and 20 pack $5.50 – $90.00 70 – 1400 mg $0.06 – $0.08 70 mg per Serving
Mighty Matcha $15.00 100 mg $0.15 14 mg per Serving

What’s the Dose of CBD?

With roughly 70 mg of CBD per tea sachet, we consider these teas to have high potency.

The Mighty Matcha has less than half of CBD per serving, but powdered matcha is high in caffeine.

Your ideal CBD dosage will vary depending on a number of factors including your age, weight, sex, experience with CBD, and what condition you’re looking to treat.

If you’re just getting started and looking at doses based on your weight, we’ve made this chart you might find helpful.

Suggested Daily CBD Intake Based On Weight and Desired Strength (in mg CBD)

Weight (lbs) Low Strength Medium Strength High Strength
100 lbs 10 mg 30 mg 60 mg
125 lbs 13 mg 38 mg 75 mg
150 lbs 15 mg 45 mg 90 mg
175 lbs 17 mg 52 mg 105 mg
200 lbs 20 mg 60 mg 120 mg
225 lbs 22 mg 67 mg 135 mg
250 lbs 25 mg 75 mg 150 mg

Hemp Source

Brothers Apothecary uses organic hemp crops grown in its home state of Oregon.

Unfortunately, the company wasn’t able to get the USDA organic certificate as it’s not available for hemp crops in Oregon.

We appreciate The Brothers Apothecary’s transparency when it comes to its hemp.

The website has a whole subpage dedicated to teaching its customers how to read Certificate of Analysis conducted both in-house and by third-party labs.

The lab tests are located in a Dropbox folder and contain the following information regarding its hemp:

  • Cannabinoid profile and concentrations
  • Heavy metals test
  • Pesticide contamination test

Purpose/ Uses

CBD teas are an excellent introduction to CBD products because it’s a familiar and comforting beverage.

Depending on what you’re after, there are a variety of teas to choose from that could suit many different needs. The Brothers Apothecary have tea blends for:

  • Boosting immune function
  • Energizing
  • Relaxation
  • Sleep-Aid
  • Detoxing

Because CBD teas tend to cost more peruse, we don’t recommend them as your daily CBD supplement. Capsules and oils are better suited for delivering strong, long-lasting doses for regular use. We recommend CBD teas for those times you need an extra CBD boost.

Formula/Ingredients

CBD can help with a variety of ailments because it interacts with the endocannabinoid system responsible for maintaining homeostasis in the body — but this doesn’t make CBD a cure-all compound. In fact, CBD works better when combined with other herbs to target specific effects.

Final Verdict: The Brothers Apothecary is our Cup of Tea

A comforting cup of hemp tea can help relieve symptoms of nausea, insomnia, indigestion, and anxiety.

The Brothers Apothecary nailed it with these teas. They’re well-formulated, contain the right amount of CBD per cup, and offer a wide variety of unique and interesting flavors.

However, at $5 per tea sachet, these aren’t the most cost-effective daily CBD supplement to support chronic pain and severe conditions on a daily basis — CBD extract-based products will be your best bet in that scenario.
