Medterra offers two potencies of their cooling creams — a milder 2.5 mg/mL potency, and a stronger 7.5 mg/mL version. Both are formulated with other healing herbs like arnica, menthol, grapefruit, rosemary, clary sage, ginger and more to help guide the effects of the CBD and make the formula more effective at fighting pain and inflammation.
The consistency of the cream can be described as smooth and slippery — giving it excellent absorptive capacity. This cream quickly absorbs into the skin where it produces a numbing, cooling sensation along with potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
This is an excellent all-around CBD cream that makes for a great addition to a medicine cabinet, camping box, or gym bag.
This product comes with incredible value. At just $0.10 per milligram of CBD in the higher potency bottle, this cream is priced well below average in its category — especially for the caliber of product. Medterra is known for its low-cost, high-quality products like this.
This product comes in two potencies — 2.5 mg/mL and 7.5 mg/mL. Combined with the other anti-inflammatory and analgesic ingredients in this formula we’d consider this potency sufficient for the intended purpose. The lower potency option may not be enough to provide enough relief for anything but the most minor symptoms, however.
Medterra uses 100% organic, non-GMO, pesticide-free industrial hemp grown in Kentucky. All of their products are third-party tested for quality.
This company is a seed-to-bottle company, which means they control the production of their products from the cultivation all the way up to mixing the final ingredients and extracts together. This gives the company tight control over the quality of their products.
Once Medterra achieves USDA certification on their hemp they’ll be getting a 5-star rating.
These rapid cooling creams are designed to provide fast-relief and cooling action for painful joints, muscle, and skin. The formulation of this product, wet consistency of the cream, and high potency (for the 750 mg bottle) are all well-suited for this purpose.
Medterra offers its pain cream in two concentrations — a high potency option and a low potency option.
This is fairly standard when it comes to CBD topicals — however, some companies will offer both a cooling cream (like this one) and a warming cream depending on the users personal preference. We’d like to see Medterra offer something with a more stimulating, warming effect to contrast this cooling cream.
This formula is simple but highly useful for the intended use of this product. The active ingredients are cannabidiol (CBD), along with cooling menthol, grapefruit seed extract, safflower seed oil, olive fruit oil, basil leaf oil, bergamot oil, Arnica montana extract, tea tree oil, ginger extract, lemon peel extract, lime peel oil, rosemary extract, and clary sage oil.
This is an advanced CBD cream with some top-notch ingredients. We were really impressed by the formula used in this rapid cooling cream.
CBD topicals are popular for supporting aches and pains of the muscles, joints, and skin. They provide a dose of CBD and other beneficial ingredients directly to the source of the issue.
Topicals allow you to target specific areas of your body to focus the effects of the CBD directly on the affected area.
This Rapid Recovery Cooling cream from Medterra is formulated with high-strength CBD, along with cooling menthol and a series of botanical extracts like arnica, bergamot, and grapefruit seed oils to ease inflammation and soothe the affected areas.
As the name implies, this particular topical has a pleasant cooling effect. This is great for areas that feel “hot” and inflamed like arthritis or eczema, for example.
If you have limited experience with CBD, this topical is a great place to start. The formula is well-rounded enough to use for a wide variety of symptoms, comes from a very well-established and reputable company, and comes in two different potency options.
This review will focus on the CBD Rapid Recovery Cooling Cream from Medterra to help you decide if it’s right for you. We’ll cover the cost, potencies, hemp source, and intended uses of this particular product and how they stack up against the competition.
Let’s get started.
Medterra’s Rapid Recovery Cooling Creams are available in three strengths — 250, 500, and 750 mg.
Topical CBD products like this are popular for use with symptoms like pain, inflammation, and irritation. Some companies choose to add other ingredients to their topical CBD formulas to make the effects even better.
In this case, Medterra designed these creams with a cooling sensation to add an extra layer of pain relief and to help stimulate blood flow to the area. This blend also includes about 15 other botanical extracts with pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory benefits.
The cooling effect of these creams makes them especially useful for conditions that feel “hot”. This may include sunburns, joint pain, post-exercise muscle soreness, skin rashes, or other forms of inflammation of the joints, muscles, and skin.
Additionally, Medterra decided to add arnica to the formula — which is a traditional herbal medicine used to speed healing, resist the formation of bruises, and alleviate pain and inflammation of the skin and muscle tissue. This was a great addition on behalf of Medterra in our opinion and really makes this formula something special.
The 250 and 500 mg concentrations of this Rapid Recovery Cooling Cream come in 50 mL bottles whereas the 750 mg variation comes in a 100 mL bottle.

For CBD topicals, Medterra’s Cooling Cream is priced competitively. The 250 mg option works out to around $0.16 per milligram (mg) of CBD while the 750 mg is an excellent deal for just $0.09 per mg of CBD.
This is well below the industry average for products of this caliber.
Topicals are a good choice if your symptoms are restricted to specific areas of the body. The added menthol provides a relaxing and cooling effect to provide a gentle cooling effect on the area. This is great for symptoms that could be described as feeling “hot” — which is usually a strong indicator of inflammation.
Medterra has strong integrity in its manufacturing processes and will send each batch to a third-party lab for testing before shipping it out to its customers. These results are done to prove that the claims they’re making about the potency, purity, and safety of their products are everything they claim them to be.
They order tests like heavy metal contamination, pesticide residues, organic solvents, cannabinoid profiles, terpene profiles, and microbial contamination. This covers all the most important tests a CBD product needs to go through before we can safely assume them to be safe to use.
We’ve had a look through some of these tests and were unable to find anything problematic.
This is a fairly potent CBD topical — especially the 500 mg version, making it useful for a wide range of applications.
A mentioned above, we found these topicals to be especially useful for symptoms we would best describe a being “hot” or warm. We tested them on sunburns and found them to be exceptional for this application. We recommend keeping a bottle nearby on those summer trips to the lake, or after a hike in the hot sun.
We also found the cooling effect to be useful for joint pain that feels hot to the touch or after a workout to soothe and cool down sore muscles. Inflammatory skin conditions may also find some benefit from this cooling CBD cream — however, this isn’t something we had the opportunity to test ourselves.
There are two philosophies when it comes to using CBD topicals — you can use warming creams to increase blood flow and alleviate pain and inflammation, or cooling creams to dull the pain and ease “hot” joints or muscles.
For most people both will work just fine — however you may have your own preference. If you’re looking for a cooling cream, look no further. If you’d rather a heating CBD cream instead, we recommend Kat’s Naturals CBD Pain Cream w/ Capsaicin instead.
These CBD topicals tend to be less expensive than many other creams on the market. If you choose the 750 mg product you’ll pay $0.09 per mg of CBD. This is well below the average for topicals which tends to be closer to the $0.20 – $0.25 per mg mark.
Overall, both versions of this product have a high value and are highly recommended. Medterra has a habit of producing top-notch CBD products at below-average pricing.

Rapid Recovery Cooling Cream — 250 mg | $39.99 | $0.16
Rapid Recovery Cooling Cream — 500 mg | $59.99 | $0.12
Rapid Recovery Cooling Cream — 750 mg | $64.99 | $0.09 |
These topicals come in three different potencies — 250 mg (5 mg/mL), 500 mg (10 mg/mL), and 750 mg (7.5 mg/mL).
If you’ve read any of our other articles you’ll know we much prefer using higher potency CBD products for skin, muscle, and joint pain. Most of the research published in the scientific literature uses doses around 7 – 10 mg/mL and up for most of their research — so we try to follow these results as much as possible. So it may not be surprising that we would recommend using the higher potency version of this product over the lower potency option.
With that said, the lower potency option is great for minor issues and is perfect for use on sunburns (in our experience). It comes at a lower cost, and we found the dose of CBD, and cooling ingredients like menthol were more than enough to get the job done.
For anything more severe, we highly recommend spending the extra money and getting the high-potency version of this CBD Rapid Cooling Cream instead.

Rapid Recovery Cooling Cream — 500 mg | 1.7 oz (50 mL) | 500 mg | 10 mg/mL

All of Medterra’s CBD products are made with 100% organic, non-GMO, and pesticide-free industrial hemp grown in Kentucky. The company’s claims about its hemp are supported by third-party test results.
Medterra is unique in that they grow most of their own hemp — which gives them an excellent degree of control over the quality of the hemp they use — which ultimately affects the quality.
Medterra chose to use a CBD isolate to make this cream, which is unfortunate because most of their other products use a broad-spectrum extract instead. This involves separating all the ingredients before recombining them in their own proprietary ratios — giving the extract many of the benefits of a full-spectrum extract while maintaining consistent cannabinoid ratios year after year.
Nevertheless, using a CBD isolate allows the company to guarantee this product to be free from any delta 9 THC — which is the main psychoactive cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, and banned in most parts of the world.
Medterra recommends these CBD topicals to help manage sore muscles and joints. The formula used to make this product is well-suited for this application — especially if you prefer a cooling action over a heating action. This is often a matter of opinion but can also depend on the source of the problem.
Inflammation on the surface of the skin and larger muscles usually do better with a cooling rub.
On the other hand, tissues that are deeper under the skin or have poor blood flow (like the insides of joints) usually benefit more from a heating rub instead.
Most people will use both topical and internal CBD such as CBD oils or CBD capsules to help manage their pain more thoroughly.
There are three CBD concentrations of this product currently available. Many companies only offer one or two topicals, so this is a decent selection in this category of CBD products.
Although we like that Medterra decided to offer two potencies, we would really only ever recommend using the more potent bottle — with the exception of treating sunburns. Even with this exception, the more potent version is going to be a better option.
It’s important to note that Medterra doesn’t offer a CBD cream with warming effects.
Medterra’s Rapid Recovery Cooling Cream is a top-notch CBD topical for a wide range of symptoms. It’s formulated with either 5, 7.5, or 10 mg/mL of CBD, along with other ingredients like arnica (to speed healing), and menthol (to give the cream a pleasant cooling sensation).
Both of these creams come at great value as well — costing only $0.09 and $0.16 per mg of CBD. These prices are well below the average for the industry when it comes to topicals — especially for a product of this caliber.
We found this cream to be a perfect all-around pain and inflammation cream — especially for symptoms that could be described as being “hot”. We recommend the higher potency option over the lower potency because most of the research on topical CBD applications used higher doses to produce any beneficial findings.
If you like the idea of a “cooling” cream, this could very well be the product you’re looking for. However, if you want something similar with more of a warming sensation, we recommend using Kat’s Naturals CBD Pain Cream w/ Capsaicin instead.
