Medterra is one of the largest names in the cannabis space. They sponsor several professional athletes and have partnered with big pharmacy brands like CVS to carry its large and diverse product lineups across the United States.
Medterra products are very well thought out, as is virtually everything else this company does.
You can find very simple products like a pure CBD tincture, and CBD softgels, as well as more specific product options like their CBD Monthly Wellness for PMS pain, Rapid Cooling Creams for muscle and joint pain, and Everyday Wellness Capsules for providing a boost in energy and focus.
Although this company only offers CBD products made from isolate, we believe this is one of the best CBD manufacturers we’ve reviewed yet.
Mission/Charity4/5
Medterra has a very generic mission statement — “[we] believe CBD should be available to all those in need at an affordable price”. Though they do provide some excellent products at a low price, this is a standard business model for big brands just like Medterra.
The company does offer assistance programs to military personnel and veterans, as well as people with long-term disabilities. These programs are designed to provide affordable CBD products to those who need it, but can’t afford it.
Hemp Source4/5
Medterra grows most of their own hemp. They never claim to use organic farming practices, but test the products at the end for pesticides and other harmful contaminants. We have yet to find a test result that failed.
By following the product from seed to bottle, Medterra can oversee every step fo the process to make sure nothing compromises the quality of their hemp and its extracts. This compares to other companies that buy their hemp from other companies — leaving them with little control over the growing conditions of the plants.
Product Range5/5
Medterra offers products in all major categories of CBD products aside from vape oils and edibles.
The company offers basic products like CBD oils and capsules made with purely CBD and MCT oil, as well as more specially formulated products like pain creams, sleep capsules, energy capsules, PMS capsules, and dog treats.
There should be something for everybody here.
Innovation4/5
Innovation is part of Medterra’s core mission. They innovate in many areas of business — such as through their sponsorships in various industries, as well as some of their growing, processing, and manufacturing techniques.
There is nothing truly innovative about their product line, however. Everything they sell is high-quality but fairly generic.
Safety5/5
Medterra uses pharmaceutical-grade herbal and nutritional ingredients for most of its formulas and doesn’t add any harmful excipients or additives. The only product we found using artificial flavoring was their pet treats.
Every batch of product they produce has clearly marked identifier numbers and links on their website. No matter when or where you purchased your bottle of Medterra CBD, you should be able to find the test online.
Customer Service5/5
Medterra has a 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with your product. They have a world-class customer service team at their disposal as well. We always try to throw off the customer service reps of the companies we’re reviewing to see how they respond, and Medterra passed with flying colors.
Medterra positions itself as a “seed to bottle” manufacturer — which means they grow, process, and formulate all of their own products. This compares to the majority of CBD companies on the market that buy the CBD they use to make their products from another company instead.
Overseeing their own farms gives Medterra the unique ability to carefully control the quality of their products the entire way through the process. This company is known for its attention to detail — something easily picked up by surfing through their incredibly designed website. Everything this company does has been carefully thought-out and edited.
Like a lot of other CBD companies these days, Medterra has a couple of big-name sponsors on their brand ambassador panel. Some of the biggest names on the roster come from the world of professional golf, such as US Open Major Champion Lucas Glover, four-time PGA Tour winner Charley Hoffman, and Morgan Hoffman.
The company also hired former Nike Director of Sales, Greg Moore — who was in charge of sales in the golf division at Nike.
We expect to see Medterra remain one of the largest names in the cannabis world for many years to come.
Medterra’s Mission
This mission at Medterra is very generic — “[we] believe CBD should be available to all those in need at an affordable price.”
Every CBD company says the same thing, and although it’s probably true, it would be nice to see a little more personality from Medterra than this.
As weak as this mission is, Medterra does back it up with its highly competitive pricing and high-grade CBD product lineups.
This is Medterra’s standard CBD oil option. To make the oil the company extracts and isolates the various cannabinoids and terpenes found in the hemp plant. They essentially throw the delta 9 THC away and recombine everything back together into a proprietary formula.
This is then mixed with a carrier oil — in this case, MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oils to dilute it to the desired strength.
This process guarantees Medterra oils to be free from THC and keeps the exact concentrations of cannabinoids (including CBD) in very precise concentrations.
The CBD tinctures come in 500, 1000, and 3000 mg strengths. All of their tinctures are extracted using state-of-the-art supercritical CO2. Each bottle of tincture is 30 mL and contains roughly 30 servings per bottle.
The included dropper has markers at 0.25 mL, 0.5 mL, 0,75 mL, and 1 mL to help you measure your dose. Unfortunately, Medterra doesn’t have any specific instructions regarding how to use their tinctures. A big reason behind this is that large companies like this are under close watch by the FDA, which significantly limits what the company is allowed to say about its products.
The average price per mg of CBD on the current market is between $0.09 – $0.14, so these tinctures have a very high value.
This cooling cream is specifically designed for sore muscles and joints. It contains a mixture of anti-inflammatories like CBD, rosemary, ginger, and aloe, with cooling and soothing agents like peppermint, basil, and bergamot. The company also added herbs like tea tree and arnica to promote healing of the skin, muscles, and bones.
Overall this is an excellent formula made with pharmaceutical precision.
The CBD cream feels nice on the skin and has a gentle cooling effect. We were actually surprised how strong this stuff felt on the skin. You could feel the cooling almost immediately.
The cooling cream comes in an easy-to-use 50 (1.7 fl oz) or 100 mL (3.4 fl oz) pump bottle. You can choose between three strengths of CBD — 250, 500, and 750 mg.
The lower potency bottle works out to 5 mg/mL — which is on the low side, and may only provide enough relief for minor aches and pains. We would highly suggest opting for the high potency version (500 mg), which delivers 10 mg of CBD per mL instead.
Medterra offers CBD gel capsules as well — which essentially consists of the CBD oil the company already makes, injected into pre-measured gel capsules.
You’re likely to find the exact same effects with these capsules as their oil. If you want to use CBD but don’t like measuring out oils to find your dose, these capsules are a good option. They’re also a little better for people who take their CBD on the go, such as hikers, athletes, travelers, or people using CBD while out and about.
These capsules come in packs of 30 and are available in three concentrations of 25, 50, and 100 mg CBD.
These capsules are a simple combination of 25 mg of CBD and 10 mg of melatonin.
Melatonin is a neurotransmitter in the brain that regulates the sleeping portion of the sleep-wake cycle. It is one of the most popular supplements in the world for supporting a healthy night’s sleep. CBD and melatonin work very well together in combination. The CBD helps to relax the brain, while the melatonin tells other areas of the brain to begin preparing for sleep.
Each peppermint flavored tablet is scored in half to make it easier to for those with a melatonin sensitivity to reduce their dose by chopping the pill in half.
Medterra recommends that you place the tablet under your tongue and allow it to dissolve for as long as possible before swallowing. This helps the contents of the tablet absorb faster through the tiny blood vessels lining the bottom of the tongue.
These capsules are a combination of herbal and nutritional ingredients designed to have mild stimulating effects on the body and prepare the body for the day. As the name implies, this product is intended for use first thing in the morning.
These capsules pair well with the CBD + Melatonin capsules also offered by the company. You can start your day off with these capsules, and end with the melatonin option.
This is a great formula overall. It’s not too stimulating but offers a little bit of a kick about 30 minutes after taking them. The inclusion of both CBD and L-theanine keeps the effects of this stimulating tablet under control. We didn’t experience any jitteriness or anxiety as a side-effect of the caffeine when taking this capsule.
This product contains 30 capsules per bottle, each with 25 mg of CBD.
These pet tinctures from Medterra are the same as the human versions, only they come in a lower potency, smaller bottle, and more dog & cat-friendly flavors (beef, chicken, and unflavored).
Pets experience the same benefits from CBD as humans because the endocannabinoid system is shared by all mammals on earth.
Deciding what potency to buy depends on the size of your animal. We recommend using the highest potency (750 mg) for dogs over 30 pounds, and the smallest strength (150 mg) for dogs less than about 15 pounds.
These are only general recommendations and your experience may vary depending on your dog — always consult with your veterinarian before giving CBD supplements to your pets.
B) CBD Pet Joint Support
These pet treats are designed to be an easy way to give your dog a dose of CBD to ease pain from the joints, muscles, or following an injury or surgery.
They contain additional ingredients formulated specifically to support your pet’s joint health. The formula includes things like MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), glucosamine, and chondroitin sulfate — all of which are well known for supporting healing of joint tissue.
These compounds help by providing nutritional precursors and cofactors the body needs to rebuild tissues in the joint such as cartilage, and synovial fluid.
The CBD is then added to ease pain and reduce inflammation.
All these ingredients are hidden behind fillers and artificial peanut butter flavor. All but one of our teams’ dogs seemed to absolutely love it.
Key Ingredients
Glucosamine
Chondroitinsulfate
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
CBD (Cannabidiol)

What Does Medterra do Well?
1. Third-Party Lab Testing & Certification of Medterra’s Products
Medterra offers third-party lab tests for every product listed on their website.
All of their products are certified by the U.S Hemp Authority — who are leaders in the initiative to drive high standards in the cannabis and CBD space.
Medterra proudly displays their lab test results directly next to each product and the fact that Medterra makes no effort to hide these results is a great indication of quality.
2. Great Source of Hemp
Medterra is one of the few companies who have direct access to Kentucky-grown hemp — which is quickly starting to be considered among the best in the world. Hemp has been grown in Kentucky as early as 1775. The plant thrives in the flat, dry ground and intense sunshine found throughout the state. In the early half of the 1800s, nearly all America’s hemp was grown in Kentucky due to the rich soil and long growing season.
The company achieves this by growing most of its hemp itself, and associated farmers in the region. This gives Medterra complete control over the entire process — allowing them to prevent any steps along the way that might compromise the quality of their products.
Most companies buy CBD from other manufacturers or farms — leaving them with little control over the growing process.
The Kentucky hemp Medterra uses in their products is non-GMO, pesticide-free, and certified zero-THC. It really doesn’t get much better than that.
Where Could Medterra Improve?
The Company Only Offers CBD Isolates
Currently, Medterra only offers CBD isolates, which is one of the reasons that its products are less expensive than many competitors.
When you use CBD isolates you’re missing out on a wealth of other cannabinoids, most of which have their own health benefits to add to the mix.
We’d like to see Medterra add a few full-spectrum options going forward for customers who want to take advantage of the entourage effect.
Safety & Third-Party Testing
Medterra tests all its products through an independent laboratory (not affiliated with the company). This is the gold standard for transparency in the industry. You can find the results of each test on the website using a batch system. Look at the bottle you brought, and reference the batch number to see the test specific to the product you have in your hand.
Only a few companies are actually using this batch-based system, but few of them actually work. We’ve entered plenty of products into similar system and received “no test found” too many times. All the Medterra products we entered brought us to the right place — so kudos to Medterra for getting this right.
Medterra ships their products internationally — including most of Europe, North America, South America, and Australia.
If you live in a country where Medterra won’t ship, try using the mail forwarding service Shipito — which gives you an American address to have packages sent. From here the company will forward your package to your real address — for a small fee.
Returns with Medterra is very straightforward. You have 30 days from the date of purchase to decide you don’t want the product — for which you’ll receive a full refund.
Final Verdict: A Pharmaceutical-Grade Hemp Manufacturer With Top-Notch Products
Medterra is one of the largest CBD manufacturers in the world, and they’re still growing.
They sponsor a number of high-level athletes and have partnered with large pharmacy chains like CVS where you can find their products stocked on the shelves.
This company took complete control of their products by growing the hemp in their industrial farming operations and keeping strong attention to detail throughout every facet of the business.
The final result is a great product lineup designed to cater to virtually anybody’s intended use of CBD and in most formats. The only major categories they don’t sell are CBD gummies or other edibles, and vape products.
We really like Medterras product lineup, particularly some of their specially formulated options like their monthly wellness of the everyday capsules.
The only downside of this company is the pharmaceutical level of manufacturing. None of their products are considered full spectrum, and all are combined with equally reductionist herbal extracts. Although this allows the company to provide precise amounts of a given compound, we feel it has a negative outcome in the potency of these products.
Nevertheless, it is a great brand with many benefits and therefore we highly recommend it.
