If you love cold-brew coffee and know anything about the benefits of mixing CBD and caffeine — this is the product you’re looking for. CBD works great as a way to mellow out the jittery side effects of caffeine.
Mary Joe is a California-based company specializing in cold-brew coffees. They source the beans and make the brew according to their own strict recipe and brewing methods before infusing the final product with a high-grade CBD isolate provided by Folium Biosciences.
Although we’re fans of this product, we don’t recommend it if your main goal is to use CBD therapeutically. This product is better suited as a delicious and convenient way of mixing CBD with caffeine in the form of a refreshing cold brew.
The price is the only real downside to this product.
At $64 per 8-pack, this puts each bottle at around $8. This is relatively expensive for a single bottle of coffee, even if you consider the added cost of CBD.
The cost per milligram of CBD (a metric we like to use to compare different types of products) is also relatively high at $0.53 per mg. We also don’t like that the larger order size containing 8 bottles of cold brew brings zero cost savings to the order.
At 15 mg CBD per 207 mL bottle, the potency of this product is in the mid-range. For a niche product like this, where the goal isn’t to achieve high doses of CBD to alleviate any major symptoms, this isn’t a bad dosage. We found it to be enough to keep most of the negative side-effects many of us experience from caffeine away, without compromising the benefits.
Mary Joe sources their hemp extract from a company called Folium Biosciences. This is a well-known contract manufacturer in the CBD space. They offer third-party test results for each batch — all of which pass without a snag.
We don’t mind that Mary Joe doesn’t make their own CBD extracts at all. It allows them to leave this delicate and highly complex process to the professionals and allows them to focus their energy on making a truly top-notch cold brew coffee.
Besides, most CBD companies in this space don’t make their own CBD extracts, so at least Mary Joe is open about it.
The primary goal of this product is to help counter caffeine’s side effects and give people a convenient way of introducing CBD into their lives — not to treat or prevent any medical conditions.
This cold-brew suits this purpose perfectly.
With only one bottle size and CBD concentration, there isn’t a lot of variety here. However, this is a niche product and we don’t see the need to offer a multitude of different product options.
Caffeine and CBD are a match made in heaven. The caffeine is stimulating to the central nervous system, while the CBD helps eliminate many of the negative side-effects. We’ve been talking about this combination for a long time, and often recommend mixing CBD oils or capsules with your daily brew.
Now you can simply knock back one of these cold brews for the same effect.
As the CBD market matures, companies are increasingly expanding into novel types of products such as CBD-infused beverages.
One particularly popular new trend is CBD-infused coffee — and for good reason. CBD not only helps counteract anxiety and related side effects of caffeine, but it may also enhance its health benefits.
This review will focus on Mary Joe’s cold brew CBD coffee — one of the first CBD-infused cold brew options we’ve seen yet. Is this coffee worth your money? Read on to find out.
Mary Joe is a company based in southern California. Founded in 2017 by avid surfers and cannabis enthusiasts Ryan Rankin and Robert Guy, Mary Joe has carved out a unique place in the CBD industry by focusing solely on their innovative product — CBD coffee.
This cold brew CBD coffee contains 15 mg of CBD mixed with filtered water and organic coffee beans. It comes in 207 mL (7 fl oz) bottles and is sold in 8-packs.
It’s not clear whether this coffee contains CBD isolate or full-spectrum hemp extract, as the company doesn’t state any information or provide third-party test results for the product online. After reaching out to the customer service agents, we were able to track these down. We didn’t find any issues with the last round of test results sent to us by the company (more on this later).
The coffee is sold at $64 for a pack of eight bottles, translating to $8 dollars per bottle.

The main benefit of this CBD coffee is its convenience. All you need to do to use it is crack the lid and enjoy a fresh cold brew. Grab one on the way out the door on your way to work, or load them up in the cooler for that camping trip next month.
Coffee is associated with common side effects such as anxiety, nervousness, and jitteriness — especially in people sensitive to caffeine. We can tell you why people mix CBD and coffee together in one of our blog posts, so if this topic interests you make sure to give it a closer read.
One of the main benefits of cold-brewed over standard coffee is its reduced acidity. This means it’s easier on your teeth and stomach, which is especially helpful if you’re a daily coffee drinker.
Mary Joe is based out of Costa Mesa, California. It was started by two avid surfers, Ryan Rankin, and Robert Guy. They put together their love for cold brew coffee and cannabis with this innovative new product line.
As a small company, Ryan and Robert spend most of their efforts brewing the best cold brew coffee they can and source their hemp from a large CBD manufacturer — Follium Biosciences.
We love how humble this company is. They only sell one product — this cold brew CBD-infused coffee. This allows the founders to focus their attention on the parts that matter — which in this case is the coffee. Anybody can infuse CBD into coffee, and plenty of companies have tried — but making the delicious cold brew consistently is the hard part, something these guys have truly mastered.
This product is best suited for people who already drink coffee regularly and want a way to combine the effects of CBD with their daily caffeine consumption.
It’s especially helpful for those who suffer from anxiety and related side effects such as jitteriness when they drink coffee and individuals who want to try out CBD in a familiar, convenient form.
We really love these cold brews for just hanging around on a hot day. We highly recommend them for a day on the lake, camping, or having a picnic in the park.
Just make sure to keep them nice and cold like they were intended.
Undoubtedly, the main downside of this CBD coffee is its steep price of $64 per 8 bottles. This means you’re paying more than 50 cents per mg of CBD, or $64 for a total of 120 mg of CBD (not including the other ingredients like the coffee of course).
With a price of $8 per 15 mg CBD bottle, it makes more sense to drink your coffee separately and add CBD oil to it.
Cost-efficiency aside, this is a delicious cold brew with enough CBD to take the edge off the caffeine without compromising its benefits.

A CBD concentration of 15 mg per 207 mL bottle sounds pretty good at first. However, when we consider CBD’s poor absorption when taken orally rather than sublingually (under the tongue), this amount results in a low-medium strength.
All that aside, you’re not using this cold brew to treat or prevent any medical condition — you’re using it because it tastes great, and offers the synergistic combination of caffeine and CBD — which we believe are a match made in heaven. This cold brew is refreshingly cold and keeps the party going without overstimulating the nervous system.

Mary Joe does not list their hemp source on their website. This was a major downside to us at first, but after reaching out to the customer service team we were able to get this information cleared up.
The company uses hemp extracts made by a company called Folium Biosciences — which is a large contract manufacturer for many other CBD companies based in the United States.
Buying their CBD from a large company like this allows Mary Joe to focus on the quality of their cold brew recipe, and leave the extraction and purification of CBD — a highly complex process — to the professionals.
However, the downside of ordering hemp extracts from companies like Folium Biosciences mean Mary Joe has no control over the quality or source of the hemp they’re using. Folium Biosciences is such a large company it’s nearly impossible to track down exactly where the hemp comes from.
They do provide detailed third-party testing — all of which suggest the hemp used to make this product is top-notch, free from chemicals, and grown with organic farming techniques.
This formula is simple — make a top-notch cold brew coffee, and add CBD isolate.
We love the taste of these cold brew coffees and find the dose of CBD to be sufficient. Though it would have been nice to see the company use a full-spectrum extract and a slightly higher potency for even greater benefit.
All of that aside, this is a great formula, and we believe the guys over at Mary Joe did an incredible job with this cold brew.
Mary joe ships internationally, but as a small company selling heavy liquid products, you can expect to pay an arm and a leg for shipping if you live outside the United States.
They offer a 30-day return policy for any unopened bottles of cold brew or manufacture errors.
Although the CBD dose in this coffee might be enough to reduce caffeine-induced anxiety and jitteriness, it’s certainly not sufficient to give you the general health and wellness benefits of CBD.
The founders of Mary Joe have proven that they take their coffee seriously with this innovative product.
If you’re familiar with our blog, you may know we’re huge proponents of mixing CBD alongside coffee. It helps to relieve the most common side effects of our favorite stimulating beverage without compromising its benefits. You can feel the same level of mental stimulation and wakefulness, without the negative side-effects like anxiety or jitteriness.
We highly recommend taking a pack or two of these cold brews on your next picnic or camping trip or simply keeping a few in the fridge to grab on your way to work. For maximum enjoyment, make sure to keep cold and save for a hot day.
