Formula Swiss CBD Balm Review

Formula Swiss’s CBD Balms exemplify quality CBD skincare. Although these CBD balms are not made for therapeutic relief of pain or inflammation, they are a truly natural CBD skincare product — with botanical extracts and no added chemical preservatives.

Formula Swiss gives customers quality assurance by providing Certificates of Analysis for all of its CBD extracts and products. On top of that, the packaging is eco-friendly. When customers purchase from Formula Swiss, they don’t just get a great product, but are also supporting a company influencing the European cannabis movement.

Price/Value 4/5

OK — Formula Swiss’s CBD Balms aren’t the cheapest. But, they contain natural, raw, and whole ingredients. There are no chemical preservatives, and all of the ingredients are actually conducive to skincare. They might be a bit expensive in terms of CBD content, but the rest of the formula makes up for it.

CBD Potency 3/5

The CBD potency for Formula Swiss’ CBD balms are low. However, these were not formulated for treating pain or inflammation. They were created as good quality skincare. The CBD potency is sufficient to handle minor skin complaints such as itchiness, dryness, rashes, and blemishes.

Hemp Source 3/5

Formula Swiss doesn’t go into any specific detail about its hemp source. However, it states that its partners are in Norway, Switzerland, and other EU nations. If the company was more specific about its hemp source, it would have scored higher here. We can rest assured of the hemp source quality thanks to the CoA posted on the website.

Purpose/Uses 5/5

Formula Swiss makes it clear that these aren’t intended to address pain or major skin concerns — but rather, to condition the skin for a healthy feel and appearance. We like the options you have in this range depending on your skin concerns and lifestyle.

Product Variations 5/5

There are seven variations in this range, each with slightly different formulations and purposes (sensitive skin types, tattoo healing, or vegan lifestyle). We love when variations are done right to suit different scent preferences, sensitivities, and lifestyle — all without compromising the company’s values.

Formulation/Ingredients 5/5

When Formula Swiss uses the word natural, they actually mean it. A browse through the formulas of all of these CBD Balms will support that. There isn’t a single chemical preservative in these CBD Balms, and each balm is infused with different botanicals for different applications.

Formula Swiss CBD Balm Review

Formula Swiss’s range of CBD topical treatments is extensive — the company has a CBD balm for almost every occasion. For example, the company includes a CBD Balm Tattoo and a CBD Balm Vegan. The recipe for each variation differs slightly, giving customers a range of seven CBD balms to choose from.

Formula Swiss stands out from the rest because of the recipe variations between balms. It’s not altogether uncommon for CBD manufacturers to release a range of products with the same recipe. It’s a marketing technique to attract a wider range of customers, even though the products are exactly the same. Formula Swiss, on the other hand, has clearly taken the time to formulate recipes for specific uses.

Formula Swiss is completely transparent in its marketing and advertising, which makes them an easy company to review. Ingredient lists are readily available, as are Certificates of Analysis (CoAs). The company is also open about its political and social associations.

Overall, Formula Swiss is a trustworthy company. The range is not as extensive as we see with other CBD product manufacturers, but their attention to quality and detail is almost unprecedented.

Overview: Formula Swiss CBD Balm

In total, Formula Swiss stocks seven CBD balms:

  1. CBD Balm Chocolate
  2. CBD Balm Calm
  3. CBD Balm Fruit
  4. CBD Balm Natural
  5. CBD Balm Sensitive
  6. CBD Balm Tattoo
  7. CBD Balm Vegan

The recipe for each balm varies slightly depending on its purpose, but they’re all priced the same: €34.95 for 30 mL of product. Formula Swiss also conveniently offers a 2 mL option for those who want to try the product without committing to the full size..

Formula Swiss uses nourishing oils and waxes as the base and, depending on the balm’s purpose, also includes botanical extracts. Unfortunately, each 30 mL jar of balm contains only 90 mg of CBD. While these balms might not be extremely useful for managing pain or inflammation, they may assist with calming itchy skin, speed the healing of wounds, and maintaining skin health.

Formula Swiss uses only full-spectrum, hemp-derived CBD extracts in its CBD balms, using supercritical CO2 extraction techniques. This preserves the full range of cannabinoids and terpenes, making it a holistic CBD extract to include in the ointments.

Overall, Formula Swiss markets its balms for the treatment of skin conditions, rather than for pain or inflammation. The variations between each product are mainly to suit customer preferences, such as aromas and lifestyle choices (vegan).

These balms err on the expensive side for CBD topicals. At the same time, virtually anybody could accurately interpret the ingredient list of these balms — they’re made with whole, nature-derived ingredients. The company virtually never includes a chemical preservative in the formula for its CBD balms.

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
  • Seven variations available
  • Available in a vegan variety
  • Sensational analyses scores (in CoAs)
  • Ships globally
  • On the expensive side
  • Lower CBD potency

Key Features & Benefits

1. Seven Variations Available, Including Vegan

Formula Swiss practically left no stone unturned when it came to creating variations of this CBD Balm. The slight nuances in the recipes make Formula Swiss’s CBD Balms accessible to almost anybody. For example, Formula Swiss stocks its CBD Balm in a chocolate aroma as well as a fruity aroma. Formula Swiss even includes a CBD Balm Vegan, which uses carnauba wax instead of beeswax.

2. Completely Natural Ingredients

There are literally no ingredients in Formula Swiss’s CBD balms that end in -ate, -ide, -enol, etc. There are no chemical preservatives, and everything is a raw botanical product (such as beeswax) or an herbal extract (such as CBD or lavender flower). It’s perfectly in line with Formula Swiss’s manifesto of sustainability and ethics.

3. Luxurious Skin Therapy

Formula Swiss’s CBD balms might not be suitable for treating painful medical conditions, but they make for very luxurious skin therapy. Formula Swiss advertises them as useful for dry, itchy skin conditions, tattoos, and sensitive skin. The company recommends using its CBD Balms for at least 28 days, as it takes the skin a total of 28 days to regenerate itself.

About The Company: Formula Swiss

Formula Swiss is an entity in the CBD world to be reckoned with. Founded in Zug, Switzerland, and family-owned, Formula Swiss is highly active in the European CBD movement. The Formula Swiss website itself is an enormous resource for CBD education, including scientific research and how-to guides.

Formula Swiss prides itself on its competency and knowledge in the CBD sector. The company is a member of the European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) and the Swiss Medical Cannabis Association. To top it off, Formula Swiss’s packaging is approved by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Through these organizations, Formula Swiss plays a role in cannabis law reform in Europe and takes initiative in sustainability measures. It should be clear to customers that Formula Swiss is involved in much more than the simple manufacture of CBD products.

Formula Swiss is completely transparent about its products. Each product is advertised with clear and concise ingredient lists, its CBD concentration, and the company also provides a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each product. Needless to say, the company passes all requirements for the presence of heavy metals, pesticides, and industrial contaminants.

Overall, what makes Formula Swiss special is its transparency and its dedication to quality. Even if the product range isn’t enormous, and it errs on the expensive side, it’s obvious that Formula Swiss takes measures that other CBD product manufacturers don’t.

Who Should Consider Using Formula Swiss’s CBD Balm?

Formula Swiss indicates its CBD Balm for use on dry, sensitive, or itchy skin. The company doesn’t recommend using this product for pain complaints or muscle soreness, as it stocks a CBD Heat Cream for this purpose. Instead, the CBD Balms are for irritated skin or for general moisturization.

We also don’t recommend choosing Formula Swiss’s CBD Balm for any pain-related treatment, as the CBD concentration doesn’t accommodate for pain relief. Each 30 mL jar contains 90 mg of CBD, bringing the concentration to 3 mg/mL. We typically recommend a minimum of 8 mg/mL for the treatment of pain and inflammation.

However, lower concentrations may be sufficient for managing irritating skin complaints such as dryness, scaliness, flaking, or simply for faster wound healing.

Price/Value

As we mentioned briefly, Formula Swiss’s CBD Balms are on the pricey side. However, they aren’t tremendously expensive, and the price isn’t unwarranted. We believe that customers are paying for all of the quality assurance measures that Formula Swiss puts in place, for the quality of its ingredients, and sophisticated formulas.

All seven varieties of Formula Swiss’ CBD Balm cost the same and contain the same CBD concentration. For that reason, we won’t list every single one of them in this cost breakdown.

There are two volumes available: 30 mL and 2 mL. The 2 mL jar is just a tester that customers can purchase and is exceptionally more expensive when you break down the cost per mg.

Cost Breakdown of Formula Swiss CBD Balm:

Product ImageProduct NameTotal CostTotal CBDCost per mg CBD
Formula Swiss CBD Balm — 30 mL€34.9490 mg€0.39
Formula Swiss CBD Balm — 2 mL€3.957.5 mg€0.53

CBD Potency

Formula Swiss’s CBD Balms are not made for aches and pains, so the potency level is, therefore, on the lower side. However, that’s not to say that these balms are ineffective. Formula Swiss indicates them for use on itchy, dry, or blemished skin. Lower potencies, along with Formula Swiss’s killer formula, can be beneficial for irritating skin complaints.

Potency Breakdown of Formula Swiss CBD Balm:

Formula Swiss CBD Balm — 30 mL90 mg3 mg/mLLow
Formula Swiss CBD Balm — 2 mL7.5 mg3.75 mg/mLLow

Hemp Source

Formula Swiss doesn’t go into any specific detail about its hemp source. The company does mention that it partners only with ingredient suppliers that support its vision of sustainability and ethics. It also has partners in Norway, Switzerland, and several other EU nations.

For customers that want more reassurance, the company provides Certificates of Analysis for each and every batch and product. This gives customers a general idea of the quality of the company’s hemp extracts, which speak volumes about the quality of its hemp.

Purpose/Uses

Formula Swiss makes the purpose of its CBD Balm quite clear — it’s for dry, itchy, or irritated skin. It could theoretically be used on any kind of minor skin complaint, whether it’s eczema, scaly skin, or dry skin.

CBD topicals are most commonly used for muscle soreness and pain. However, Formula Swiss doesn’t indicate these topicals for that purpose, likely because their CBD concentration is too low to achieve that result.

However, the formulations are completely conducive to skin care; Formula Swiss uses natural waxes and oils as the base for the balms, and in some variations, includes botanical extracts. These balms are best used for minor skin complaints or for cosmetic reasons.

Formulations/Ingredients

Formula Swiss uses the same base for every balm except for their CBD Balm Vegan. The ingredients for the base include:

  • Beeswax
  • Coconut oil
  • Shea butter
  • Hemp seed oil
  • Almond oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Sunflower oil
  • CBD

There Are 6 Slightly Different Formulas For this CBD Balm:

  1. In the CBD Balm Vegan, Formula Swiss substitutes beeswax with carnauba wax.
  2. CBD Balm Calm includes lavender flower extract and vanilla fruit extract.
  3. CBD Balm Chocolate contains cocoa butter and coffee bean extract.
  4. CBD Balm Fruit contains mango butter and calendula oil.
  5. CBD Balm Natural has lavender flower extract.
  6. CBD Balm Sensitive is made only with the ingredients listed as the base formula, as is the CBD Balm Tattoo.

What’s beautiful about these formulations is that they are made up of an ingredient list virtually anybody can understand. There are no unfamiliar chemicals or compounds, and almost every ingredient is plant-based.

Formula Swiss’s Shipping & Returns Policy

Formula Swiss ships internationally, including to the US and Australia. However, Formula Swiss also serves the disclaimer that it takes no responsibility for packages that are seized at customs. CBD legality is not the same everywhere, so be familiar with the laws in your country before purchasing.

When we checked shipping costs, it was a flat €9.50 to ship one CBD Balm to Italy, the USA, and Australia. Shipping is calculated at checkout, but it seems that Formula Swiss charges a flat shipping cost.

Formula Swiss only accepts returns on unopened, undamaged, and unused goods. The return must be lodged within 14 days of receiving the item. If Formula Swiss accepts the return, a refund or exchange is granted.

If goods arrive damaged or defective, it should be sent back to Formula Swiss for inspection. If it’s approved, Formula Swiss will issue a replacement.

Final Verdict: A Natural Alternative To Skincare

We can’t go so far as to say that Formula Swiss’s CBD Balms are therapeutic for the treatment of pain or inflammation. But it’s obvious that Formula Swiss has thought about a way to formulate a skincare product without having to include harsh chemicals or preservatives. And for that, it’s a holistic, healthy, and natural skincare product.

So for those who have minor skin complaints, Formula Swiss’s product is worth buying. Though it may be expensive, customers support Formula Swiss’s plight towards hemp sustainability and ethics. Overall, a great product that errs on the expensive side.
