This CBD rub from CBD For Life was the company’s first product — and remains its best-seller to this day. And for good reason!
This salve has an excellent consistency, melting in the hands after just a few seconds, and absorbing nicely into the skin. Instead of leaving an unpleasant greasy sensation on the skin, it feels silky and hydrated on the skin.
The CBD content of this product is around 4.8 mg/mL — which is more than many competitors, especially in this price range.
You can buy this product in three different formats — the original formula, lemongrass, or lavender aromas.
Read on to learn why we love this simple CBD topical rub!
The best way to compare the cost of different products is to look at how much it costs for each milligram of CBD. For this product, the cost per mg is a mere $0.20 — which is about half what most other comparable CBD topicals are charging.
Although we’re not sure the hemp source is as good as some of the company’s competitors, the product feels great, has passing scores for safety and potency, and delivers excellent value overall.
This product clocks in at around 4.8 mg/mL, which is well above our minimum of 3 mg/mL. Anything less than this amount is hard to justify as an effective CBD topical.
The addition of other essential oils further improves the potency of this product for different applications through a concept called synergy. This is where different phytochemicals work together to produce even stronger effects than they would on their own.
CBD For Life sources its hemp from a Colorado farm said to use organic and sustainable farming practices, which includes the use of organic USDA certified soil — unfortunately, no certifications are available to back these claims. Its Facebook page and old website also state differing hemp sources (Europe), so we’re not entirely clear on CBD For Life’s hemp crops. Even the customer service reps we spoke with couldn’t give us a straight answer on where the hemp comes from.
Although the company can’t make any suggestions as to what each of these products is intended to be used for, based on the formulations used we can draw some lines for what the company intended these products to be used for.
We like the warming action in the original formula for joint and muscle soreness, the lavender for skin irritation, and the lemongrass option for connective tissue pain or inflammation.
Of course, these products are all still simple enough to be used for just about any application of CBD topicals.
This rub comes in three different formulations. The major difference between them is the essential oil profile — the consistency, potency, and bottle size are all the same.
When you take into account all the topicals offered by this company, just about every category of topicals is covered. There’s face creams, body butters, pain salves, foot creams, roll-on topicals, and more.
We love the simplicity of this CBD formula. The CBD potency is high enough for us to get excited about it, and CBD For Life adds other beneficial essential oils to the mix as well.
The formula used for the base of this product is also exceptional — we love the waxy consistency that melts quickly while rubbing the oil around on the skin. This means the product can be stored easily without worrying about leaks, while at the same time having the highly absorptive benefits of an oil over a wax.
Excellent work on this one CBD For Life!
Pure CBD For Life Rub retails for $25 and comes in a 25 g (0.9 fl. oz) jar. You can buy this topical rub in three different scents:
The only difference between the three options are the essential oils used to produce their characteristic aroma.
One jar is reported to contain 120 mg of CBD (which provides a potency of 4.8 mg/mL). This information is hard to find, as it’s not listed on the bottle or the product page. We were only able to determine this from a question posted on the company’s FAQ page.
The consistency of the rub is waxy but melts quickly under the warmth of your hands. It spreads easily across the skin and absorbs relatively quickly. After rubbing into the skin, this CBD rub leaves a silky smooth feeling on the skin without being overly greasy.
We tried all three scents, and all of them were top-notch in our books. The original has a gentle warming effect, making it especially soothing on sore joints and muscles.

Although these products aren’t explicitly vegan, CBD For Life is a cruelty-free brand. None of its products were tested on animals at any point in production. Animal skin tissues share similarities to our own, but these tests can cause irreparable damage and discomfort to the animal. This is something CBD For Life simply won’t support.
These compounds are commonly found in cosmetics to provide preservative and fragrant properties. Although deemed safe in small quantities, some studies have shown parabens and phthalates can affect hormone function. Those with sensitive skin should avoid products with these ingredients altogether.
CBD For Life is a New-Jersey based company owned and operated by Beth Stavola and her sister Julie Winter.
Like many cannabis company startups, the company was founded after one of the sisters found significant relief from hard to treat symptoms after using cannabis products. Beth Stavola suffered severe back pain as a result of scoliosis (improper curvature of the spine). After seeing how effective CBD was for her condition, the two sisters decided to team up with a chemist and begin their own CBD company.
The first product the sisters made was this CBD Rub — which continues to be their top-selling product to this day.
Pure CBD For Life Rub retails for $25 for a 25 g (0.88 oz) jar and is advertised to have 120 mg of CBD.
Some of the older third-party test results we managed to find listed about 25% less CBD than advertised. However, the newer tests confirm this product has around 120 mg per bottle. There’s always going to be some variance in the potency — but this should remain within about 1% of the advertised level if using CBD isolates like this product. Full-spectrum products will have even more variance, but even this should remain within about 5% of the advertised level.
The best way to compare the cost of similar products is to look at the cost for every milligram of CBD used in the formula. For this product, the cost breaks down to roughly $0.20 per mg of CBD.
This falls on the cheaper end of the spectrum for topicals — which often cost more than $30 per mg of CBD depending on the formula.

Pure CBD For Life Rub — Original | $25.00 | 120 mg | $0.20

Pure CBD For Life Rub — Lavender | $25.00 | 120 mg | $0.20 |
For whatever reason, CBD For Life doesn’t provide a CBD content on the product description or labeling. You can, however, find the product potency on the FAQs page, which is said to contain 120 mg of CBD and would provide a low potency of 4.8 mg/g of CBD.
This is about average when it comes to potencies for CBD topicals. We like to see products contain at least 3 mg/mL for the CBD to have any notable effect — so this product ticks the box in this regard.
To make this product even better, it comes with a pretty good formula including essential oils, phytonutrients, and other plant extracts. These compounds help soothe the skin (especially lavender), increase blood flow to damaged muscles or joints (especially in the original formula), and protect connective tissue (especially the lemongrass option).
All of these additional effects add to the overall potency of the product.

Previously, it was difficult to find information regarding CBD For Life’s hemp source, although the company has made website changes to provide some transparency.
With the revamped website, a new page dedicated to the company’s hemp source was added. The new section says it sources its hemp from Colorado farms that implement organic and sustainable farming practices, which includes the use of organic USDA certified soil — however, no certifications are provided to back these claims.
According to a now-deleted page, CBD for Life claimed to use CBD extract from the stems and stalks of industrial hemp.
This doesn’t sound like a great hemp source.
The majority of the therapeutic compounds are found in the hemp flowers — either CBD For Life doesn’t understand its product, or it’s cutting costs by purchasing a subpar hemp source.
With former information no longer available, it’s unknown whether CBD For Life has improved quality by switching to flowers, or if they simply omitted this information from the public.
The company’s Facebook page says it sources its hemp from Europe, so we’re not sure what we believe — so we reached out to the company for more information. Representatives from the company were able to send us current third-party lab tests (all of which showed no sign of problems), but couldn’t give us more information on where the hemp comes from, or if any of it is certified organic or not.
CBD For Life’s Pure CBD For Life Rub is formulated with a 99% pure CBD isolate in a beeswax-based salve, enriched with hemp seed oil, and essential oils.
Overall we love this formula. It feels great on the skin, absorbs quickly, has an excellent aroma (the original was our favorite), and offers a decent amount of CBD with every application. The addition of essential oils may serve to help the CBD absorb into the skin faster, and support its actions with effects of their own.
Each formula contains different essential oils — each offering their own set of benefits:
Product Image | Product Name | Essential Oils Used | General Effect Profile |
Pure CBD For Life Rub — Original | Camphor Cajuput Oil Menthol Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) Peppermint (Mentha piperita) Clove (Eugenia caryophyllus) | Warming Rubefacient Stimulating Analgesic
Pure CBD For Life Rub — Lemongrass | Camphor Cajuput Lemongrass (Cymbopogon schoenanthus) Menthol Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) Peppermint (Mentha piperita) Clove (Eugenia caryophyllus) | Warming Connective tissue supportive Anti-inflammatory
Pure CBD For Life Rub — Lavender | Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) Mint (Mentha arvensis) Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) | Soothing Relaxing Antispasmodic Skin restorative |
The essential oils Cinnamomum cassia, Cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass), and Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) are reported to provide pain-relieving properties — which can boost CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties.

After testing each of these three topical CBD rubs, we had a hard time deciding which one was our favorite. The main difference between these three products is the essential oil profile used. This gives each one a unique aroma but also improves the effect profile of each.
The original formula has a lot of stimulating and warming essential oils — giving it a gentle heating effect on the surface of the skin and joints. We liked this formula the best for sore or inflamed muscles and joints because of this.
The lavender formula is more soothing and has a stronger action on the skin itself. We like this one for dry, itchy, or otherwise irritated skin.
And finally, the lemongrass rub. Traditionally lemongrass is used for connective tissue injuries or pain — such as the ligaments. Lemongrass has a pleasant uplifting aroma as well.
Overall, we would highly recommend these salves. They have a good formula, good potency, and excellent price point compared to others in its class. The consistency is waxy until you start warming it up with your hands, at which point it melts into more of an oily consistency that absorbs quickly into the skin.
